Buy thousands of cubic meters of sand from Cambodia
The Cao Lanh City bypass has a total length of more than 14.5km. Of which, there are 12 river bridges and one road bridge. The project is divided into three packages 9, 10 and 11.
Contractors are working hard on the construction site of the Cao Lanh city bypass (Dong Thap).
At package number 10, Mr. Le Su, technical officer, Construction Trade Service Joint Stock Company 68 (construction contractor) said that the package implemented by the company is 3.3km long, including two bridges.
Currently, the bridges have been basically completed according to regulations. As for the road section, enough sand has been provided, the contractor is organizing workers to build culverts, cover the slope, fill the roadbed with sand and apply crushed stone.
The project progress to date has reached 84%. At the construction site, the company has arranged 25 workers and 7 machines and equipment to work from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
It is expected that by November 20, when the weather conditions are favorable, the contractor will organize the asphalt paving of the road surface. At the same time, by December 31, the company will hand over the project according to the proposed construction plan.
"To achieve the planned progress, next November, the contractor will mobilize more workers and equipment to the construction site. In addition, the company will also add an additional asphalt carpet production line to speed up construction," said Mr. Su.
From now until the end of 2024, the contractor strives to carry out asphalt paving.
Regarding package No. 11, Mr. Nguyen Dang Phat, Project Manager, Construction Joint Stock Company 207 (construction contractor) said that the package under the company's responsibility is 6.5km long. Up to now, the progress has reached 50%.
"It is expected that by the end of the year, the contractor will only be able to asphalt 2km of road. To do this, the company has purchased 3,300m3 of sand from Cambodia for construction because the project has stopped supplying sand since November 2023," said Mr. Phat.
Risk of being late
According to Mr. Phat, due to lack of sand at the construction site, construction is difficult.
Specifically, the package that the company is in charge of has 20 sections that need to be loaded, but so far only 9 sections have been loaded.
Meanwhile, the loading time for each section takes an average of 3-4 months to ensure technical factors according to regulations. Therefore, the plan from now until the end of the year is unlikely to be completed.
"Currently, the package is still short of 60,000 cubic meters of sand. If the sand is available soon and the loading is completed by November, it is expected that by the end of March 2025, the contractor will be able to complete the assigned work," Mr. Phat informed.
The project is at risk of being delayed due to lack of construction sand.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thai, Project Manager, Nhon Thanh Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (construction contractor) said that the contractor was assigned to construct package No. 9, with a total length of 2.6km.
Due to a lack of 10,000m3 of sand for construction, the contractor has only been able to load 11/18 sections. The company has planned to buy sand from Cambodia but has not yet found a suitable source.
"At the construction site, the contractor arranged 15 workers and 15 machines and equipment to compact the roadbed at locations that do not need to be loaded or have completed unloading according to regulations," said Mr. Thai.
According to the plan, the Cao Lanh city bypass will be completed and put into use by the end of 2024. But so far, the Dong Thap Province Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) said that the project implementation progress has reached 73.18% of the contract volume.
The Cao Lanh City bypass (Dong Thap) is 14.5km long, starting at National Highway 30 in An Binh Commune, Cao Lanh District, and ending at Phong My Bridge. The project has a total investment of over VND900 billion, with a road surface width of 11m and a speed of 80km/h. In addition to the road, the project also builds bridges, culverts and branches to intersections.
