Hanoi Department of Construction has just issued Document No. 1847 dated March 11 reporting to the Ministry of Construction the results of reviewing and handling existing problems and shortcomings in road traffic organization in the area.
According to the Hanoi Department of Construction, this agency was assigned by the City People's Committee to manage two main expressways and some service roads of the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway with a total length of 107.5km.
Along with that are 11 national highways with a total length of 241.8km; 86 tunnels of all kinds (mechanized tunnels, civil underpasses, pedestrian tunnels) with a total length of 3.9km; 1,385 roads (provincial roads, district roads, urban roads) with a total length of 2,044.8km; 376 bridges with a total length of 40.54km.

The Department of Construction has directed its affiliated units and contractors managing and maintaining the traffic light system to strengthen inspection work and promptly fix problems and damage to traffic lights during operation and use.
At the same time, closely coordinate with the City Police to receive information about traffic light incidents, coordinate to adjust the light cycle time to suit the density and traffic volume to minimize possible traffic congestion.
Accordingly, the Hanoi Department of Construction has maintained the traffic light system (including 3-color control buttons; yellow flashing buttons; pedestrian light buttons; wireless mobile light buttons) to ensure operation; promptly adjusted the light phases at locations with inadequate traffic organization and repaired damage to traffic lights at intersections under its management; replaced and supplemented more than 1,400 thousand signs of all kinds.
The maintenance of traffic lights has been coordinated by the Maintenance Board with the Traffic Control Center - City Police and related units to regularly check and promptly adjust the light beams at inappropriate locations. The total number of traffic lights repaired and replaced of all types is more than 1,200 sets.
Hanoi Department of Construction has also coordinated with inter-sectoral agencies to inspect and review 5 black spots and 235 potential traffic accident spots.
The Hanoi Department of Construction also said that this year it will continue to review and build a list of traffic lights in the city that need to be repaired and upgraded. It is expected that by 2025, 505 new countdown lights will be replaced.
Regarding the inspection and review of the road sign system, the Department of Construction has directed units to strengthen inspection work, promptly fix and handle damaged road sign locations, propose adjustments at inadequate locations; ensure that signs are arranged reasonably, scientifically, easily recognizable, and in accordance with traffic organization plans.
Road maintenance contractors and traffic lights are required to proactively trim to ensure easy visibility for vehicles.
