The Vietnam team has finalized the list of 26 players for the AFF Cup 2024. Because the previous number of players in the hands of coach Kim Sang-sik was 33 players (30 faces trained in Korea, adding 3 players from Nam Dinh), so to complete the list, Mr. Kim was forced to eliminate 7 names.
After a thorough evaluation and screening process, coach Kim Sang-sik decided to part ways with goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, midfielders Nguyen Van Truong, Nguyen Thai Son, Tran Bao Toan, Phan Van Duc, and strikers Nguyen Dinh Bac and Nguyen Quoc Viet.

Van Duc and Van Truong both missed the chance to play in the 2024 AFF Cup. Van Duc played a key role in the Vietnam national team in the early stages of coach Park Hang-seo's time. However, persistent injuries at the club caused the midfielder born in 1996 to miss the opportunity to break through. Returning from injury, Van Duc tried hard, but could not regain his previous form and fitness. Tonight, a group of 3 players from Nam Dinh Club including defender Nguyen Van Vi, striker Nguyen Xuan Son and Nguyen Van Toan will join the national team, after completing their duties for their home club in the 2024/25 AFC Champions League Two Group Stage.
Tomorrow morning (December 6), the team will leave for Laos to prepare for the opening match in Group B of the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship against the host country's team. This match will take place at 8:00 p.m. on December 9 at the Laos National Stadium.
In the forward line, the appearance of Nguyen Xuan Son and Nguyen Van Toan forced coach Kim Sang-sik to purge the young strikers. Dinh Bac was called up to the national team under coach Philippe Troussier and made a strong impression. However, the 20-year-old striker needs to practice more on his competitive spirit, decision-making ability as well as consistency throughout. Dinh Bac is a "rough diamond" that needs more time to be polished.

With 26 of the best players, the Vietnamese team will enter the final stage of preparation.
