A scene from the MV Bac Bling
Musician Tuan Cry talks to Tuoi Tre about the aftermath of the Bac Bling fever as well as his seven-year journey pursuing his passion for music.
Released on the evening of March 1, MV Bac Bling officially rose to Top 1, becoming "The most impressive MV debut globally" with 42 million views after 11 days of release.
My mother lost sleep several nights.
* Two weeks have passed, now Tuan Cry must be calmer? How did your family receive this MV?

- Today Tuan is more stable, but a few days ago he was both excited and stressed.
Actually, I played the song to my mom last year. She said, "It's good, it has potential" and gave me some feedback on the vibrato.
When Bac Bling went viral, my mother lost sleep for several nights because of joy.
After years of seeing my child insecure and having an unstable career, now I know that my mother is the happiest person.
My cousins are all over the trend, and my uncles love it but tell me: "You're famous now. Whatever you do, you have to maintain your image."
* Did Tuan think it was that hot at first?
- I thought it would be hot but not to that extent.
When I sent the article to Hoa, the first thing I said was "the world is just like this". But I think in fact the world is not sure if it has the same cultural material as ours to do it.
* How much does Hoa Minzy pay Tuan Cry?
- In general, compared to others, Hoa is quite generous but it's just enough to get by.

North Bling does not destroy Quan Ho
* When writing Bac Bling , what was the hardest thing? There are opinions that Bac Bling destroys quan ho?
- Find a point of intersection so that everyone can hear it. As for the latter, I see that the number of people who respond to this MV is larger than those who have the opposite opinion.
Bắc Bling is not destroying quan họ. It is not a quan họ song, so why destroy quan họ? Saying that is too sinful.
This is an open song, "inviting" you to visit the homeland of Quan Ho. Secondly, to be honest, if it were an original Quan Ho song, it would not have reached so many young people.
* Tuan suggested artist Xuan Hinh to Hoa Minzy, did artist Xuan Hinh give any comments?
- Hinh's father said, "I think your voice is pretty good. I listened to your writing and accepted it."
In the young generation, not everyone can write like that. Just do it, son. If you don't do it, no one will know. Just do it boldly." My father's words encouraged me a lot.
* Have you liked any songs that exploit folk culture before?
- Last year in the program Anh trai vu ngan cong gai , I really liked the songs Trong com, Dao lieu … When I saw these types of songs being well received, I was very happy because next year I would start to "show my face" and Bac Bling would be the first shot. I told myself "my time has come".
MV Bac Bling
Seven years of ups and downs
* Why is your stage name Tuan Cry?
- There was a period when I made parody music. There were clips that I woke up to find all over the internet. Tuan Cry became an unexpected internet phenomenon. But at that time I never thought I would become famous that way. I was sad so I just did something fun.
The stage name Tuan Cry was born with the idea of wanting to make music that could make the audience laugh to tears. At that time in Ho Chi Minh City, there was the "remix music saint" Tai Smile, and outside there was also Tuan Cry.

Looking back now, I realize something very interesting. The more you expect something, the less it comes.
But if you do it with passion, selflessly, without expecting anything, everything will come naturally. Bac Bling is an example.
* Behind the music parody clips that make listeners laugh to tears is a Tuan Cry crying a little inside, right?
- That's right. I kept struggling with my dream. Although many people responded and gave me laughter, the laughter was short-lived. It only went viral for 1-2 days.
I told myself I must do something of some value.
But then the clips were copyrighted. I couldn’t get the copyright. I couldn’t afford to buy them. I decided to pack my bags and go to Ho Chi Minh City to study songwriting and production.
During that process, I also realized that the important "keyword" of my life is culture - folklore . Find it and just go.
* What does your family say?
- Too much talk. My mother said, "Come on, son, go back to your hometown and work for a company. Find a stable job with 200,000 - 300,000 VND/day. You're just wandering around like that, and you don't have any money." Honestly, I was very confused.
Then COVID-19 came, I decided to go back to my hometown. Everything seemed to have been settled or something.

* What did that return uncover in you?
- Since I was little, I have heard my mother - a Quan Ho singer - sing, but at that time I was too young to think about learning about my homeland's culture.
This return was like returning to my roots. I discovered a "gold mine" that I had not noticed for a long time. So during the day I worked as a porter and hired laborer to earn money, and at night I groped around reading documents about Kinh Bac.
* On his personal page, Tuan Cry quoted someone's saying: "There are trees that bloom in spring, trees that wait for summer, trees that choose autumn, trees that wait for winter. But no tree is forgotten. We are the same, each person has their own time and space to shine." It can be understood that people will shine with their own persistent attitude, not a viral MV?
- Tuan thinks so. If we persevere with our dreams, are passionate and dedicate ourselves, sooner or later we will shine in some way.
Tuan Cry, Hoa Minzy or anyone else did not lose themselves because of a hot MV. After all, there are many other sources of happiness besides fame or money.
Behind Bac Bling are seven years of learning, ups and downs, many times running out of energy, having the intention to give up but then recharging to continue.
The success of Bac Bling comes just in time after seven years of pursuing his musical dream. The fruits that were once green are now starting to turn golden and ripe… I think this is the time when I can confidently invite everyone to eat.
