On the evening of April 9, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training sent an open letter (signed by Director Nguyen Van Hieu) to all parents of students at the American International School Vietnam Primary, Secondary and High School (AISVN International School).
Parents of AISVN International School have contributed more than 28.4 billion VND
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the incident that occurred at AISVN International School recently affected the students' study plans.
Over the past few days, the Department and relevant agencies have been working with the school board and principal of AISVN International School to resolve related issues, prioritizing ensuring students' learning rights.
With the companionship and support of parents, since April 1, 748 parents have agreed to contribute to support the school's educational activities until the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
As of 3pm on April 8, parents had contributed a total of more than VND28.4 billion. After paying salaries, social insurance, health insurance for teachers, teaching assistants, foreign and Vietnamese staff working at the school and expenses for teaching activities to operate the school, the current account balance is VND9.5 billion.
The leaders of the Department of Education and Training acknowledge and sincerely thank the sharing and companionship of parents.
The Department also issued a document requesting the investor and principal of AISVN International School to confirm the funds contributed by parents to support the school's educational activities until the end of the 2023-2024 school year, and commit to repaying them after restructuring the American International Education Joint Stock Company.
Online teaching for non-contributing students
However, according to the Department of Education and Training, with the current balance, the department estimates that it cannot continue to maintain direct teaching activities for all students until the end of the school year.
The Department of Education and Training met with representatives of 748 parents, receiving proposals to organize direct teaching for students who have contributed support and online teaching for students who have not contributed.
"We still prioritize the solution for students to go to school, study and live directly with teachers and friends. Therefore, we hope that parents will join hands with us, agree and contribute to support the school's educational activities so that students' learning in the last months of the 2023-2024 school year is not interrupted.
Sharing the wishes of parents and students in their desire to continue studying at AISVN International School, the Department of Education and Training is currently working with the school to find a qualified and reputable investor to restructure and organize the school's educational activities in the coming school years.
We believe that with the support of parents, the efforts of authorities, the determination of the school board and the attention of investors, AISVN International School will continue to maintain its operations and ensure the quality of education," the open letter said.
After receiving this open letter, some parents expressed their indignation: "Previously, all parents invested billions of dong in the school so that our children could study. Even last year, the school was in debt, we already contributed money, now the school is calling for more contributions. This is really beyond the capacity of many parents.
If we don't contribute money to 'save the school' this time, our children will have to study online and not be able to go to school in person with their friends, which is unacceptable."
Another group of parents added that the proposal for online learning was also from a small number of parents and did not represent all. Therefore, it is impossible to rely on that minority opinion to implement this.
