According to China News , the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of China (CCDI) announced on May 22 that it is investigating and considering disciplinary action against Liu Jingtai, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Hainan Province (southern China), for suspected "serious disciplinary violations" - a phrase often used in corruption cases.

Liu Xingtai, 61, has held many leadership positions in his hometown of Shandong Province, including Standing Committee Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Office of the Provincial Organization and Personnel Committee, Mayor of Rizhao City, and Party Secretary of Rizhao City.
During Liu's tenure in Rizhao, the corruption case related to Rizhao port attracted the attention of Chinese public opinion.
In January 2018, commenting on this case, Mr. Liu Xingtai, then Secretary of Rizhao City, stated that if a locality has "an unjust atmosphere and rampant corruption" , party members and cadres will not have the passion to work and start a business, market order will be disrupted and the economy cannot develop healthily.
"The handling of corruption issues related to Rizhao Port once again proves that corruption is the biggest tumor hindering economic development, and an environment of integrity is the most important guarantee for a strong economy," he stressed.
Also in January 2018, after more than 30 years of working in Shandong, Mr. Liu Xingtai was transferred to Hainan to take up the position of Deputy Governor of Hainan Province. In July of the same year, Mr. Liu was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the Henan Provincial Party Committee, and then held the position of Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee.
During this time, he served as Head of the Steering Committee for the Elimination of Organized Crime and Handling of Social Evils in Hainan Province.
In May 2020, at a press conference to inform about the solved cases, Mr. Liu Xingtai mentioned the largest organized crime case in the history of Hainan province, the Huang Hongfa case.
This case has prosecuted and investigated 109 party members and civil servants, related to provincial agencies, district and town leaders, commune and village officials, as well as the irrigation, tax, land, police sectors, etc.
In January 2022, Mr. Liu Xingtai was elected Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial People's Congress.
Liu Jingtai is the 27th central-level official in China to be disciplined this year.
Notably, Mr. Liu Xingtai is the fourth central-level official to be disciplined within just one week since May 16.

On May 16, Mr. Lou Wenlong, former member of the Party Executive Committee and Deputy Governor of the Agricultural Bank of China, was disciplined.
On May 18, Mr. Duong Nhan Kien, Secretary of the Party Executive Committee and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, was disciplined.
On May 20, Mr. Wang Hao, member of the Party Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Political Consultative Conference, was disciplined.
Among them, Mr. Duong Nhan Kien, Mr. Vuong Hao and Mr. Luu Tinh Thai were all disciplined while in office.
