Experience traditional Northern culinary tourism in Duong Lam ancient village

Previously, within the framework of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2024 held on the evening of January 26 in Laos, the Organizing Committee of the ASEAN Tourism Awards 2024 announced the localities and units of ASEAN countries that were honored and awarded. Vietnam was honored to have 25 localities and units honored. Of which, the traditional Northern cuisine experience tourism at the ancient village relic in Duong Lam was honored as an ASEAN sustainable tourism product in 2024. This award is a testament to the efforts, quality and brand of Duong Lam tourism, reflecting the strong recovery of tourism in Son Tay town in recent times.

Within the framework of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2024 held in Laos, Minister Nguyen Van Hung presented the ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Product Award to a representative of Son Tay town.

Duong Lam Ancient Village is an ancient village with many unique cultural features of the Northern region. The natural beauty and antiquity make Duong Lam an impressive destination for domestic and foreign tourists to visit and experience tourism in the suburbs of Hanoi. The attraction of Duong Lam Ancient Village for tourists also comes from the diverse and rich local cuisine. Some culinary products of the Ancient Village have been recognized as OCOP products, such as: Mia chicken, sesame candy, peanut candy, gai cake, soy sauce. In addition, there are many attractive products to serve the needs of tourists, such as: Gai cake, fish stewed with soy sauce, roasted pork, grilled meat, traditional spring rolls, summer lotus cake, cassava cake, lam cake, dried radish...

Among them, the most easily seen image in ancient houses hundreds of years old is the jars of soy sauce arranged in front of the house yard. Mia chicken is also a famous specialty of Duong Lam. In the past, Duong Lam was also called Ke Mia, so the precious chicken breed raised here was called Mia chicken - a specialty only offered to gods and kings. Nowadays, Mia chicken's genetic source is preserved by the people and developed into a high-class agricultural product of Duong Lam.

Foreign tourists experience tourism in Duong Lam ancient village

Another specialty that cannot be missed when coming to Duong Lam is Che Lam. Originally a traditional specialty of the Doai region, Che Lam Duong Lam still has its own flavor, made from simple ingredients such as: roasted sticky rice flour, malt, fresh ginger, molasses, roasted peanuts... Along with peanut candy, stuffed candy, Che Lam is a rustic, familiar gift that carries the soul of the Vietnamese countryside in general and Duong Lam Ancient Village in particular.

The culinary dishes in Duong Lam ancient village still tend to be based on traditional manual methods. Although today, some households have also implemented mechanized processes of machine chains. However, there are products that still require manual methods such as the way to cook sausage candy...

The Traditional Northern Cuisine Experience Tour - Duong Lam Ancient Village was awarded the ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Product Award, a prestigious award that contributes to honoring and promoting businesses in Son Tay town to develop brands, products and high-quality tourism services in the region. At the same time, it is an opportunity for units to promote and improve the effectiveness of promoting Vietnam tourism and the national destination brand "Vietnam Timeless Charm".
