The first time he tasted Vietnamese hotpot with all kinds of meat, an Angolan member admitted that he felt stronger after eating, and could even carry dozens of bags of rice without getting tired.
As members of the African team that has been with Quang Linh Vlogs for many years, Pham Bao and Thanh Hau actively support people in remote villages in Angola with agricultural cultivation.
In addition, they also regularly post videos instructing locals on how to cook typical Vietnamese dishes such as: lemongrass chicken, turmeric chicken, black bean sweet soup, cassava sticky rice, braised pork...
Both hope that simple, authentic Vietnamese meals will help people have more energy to work and spread the unique culinary culture of their homeland.
In the most recent video posted on their YouTube channel with nearly 950,000 subscribers, Pham Bao and Thanh Hau show off their cooking skills by cooking a familiar Vietnamese dish to treat their Angolan family members. It is hotpot.
“Today we treat our brothers at the farm to a hot pot meal after hard days of work like harvesting rice, corn, weeding potatoes…”, Bao said.
To make a delicious hot pot with authentic Vietnamese flavor, they go to the market to buy some ingredients such as ribs, sausages, beef, and chicken. The vegetables used to dip the hot pot are available at the farm, grown by the local people.
Bao said that the hot pot broth is simmered from bones, with fried onions and tomatoes added. When the bones are cooked, add chicken to cook together, which not only makes the broth sweeter, but also ensures that the ingredients are soft and cooked, so that it can be eaten immediately, making it convenient to enjoy.
He also sliced fresh beef into thin slices and cut sausages into small pieces so that when dipped in hot pot, they would cook faster and not take much waiting time.
After preparing the ingredients, Pham Bao and Thanh Hau spread out a tarp to make a seating area outside and then took turns serving the food. He also kept calling the members working on the farm to quickly wash their faces and hands so they could enjoy the delicious hot pot together.
When everyone was seated, Pham Bao prepared the food and took the opportunity to introduce how to make and enjoy Vietnamese hot pot.
“This dish is eaten by dipping food in hot broth like this, with many ingredients such as chicken, sausage, beef and vegetables,” he described.
After that, the group members carefully instructed people how to cut the vegetables into small pieces and then dip them into the boiling hot pot.
Everyone was excited, watching intently.
“Everyone enjoy the chicken and ribs first. They are all cooked. As for the vegetables, beef and sausage, I will dip them in as I eat them to make them more delicious,” Bao said as he quickly scooped the food onto plates.
The first time tasting, an Angolan member commented that the Vietnamese hot pot looked very attractive. The broth was sweet and the meat was very soft and easy to eat.
“We are very happy that you guys cooked such delicious food for us. This is probably the most nutritious dish I have ever eaten.
Now I feel more energetic and can carry dozens of bags of rice into the house," this person humorously shared.
The rest of the group shared the same sentiment, repeatedly exclaiming “chapepa” (which means wonderful). The young man who could speak Vietnamese nodded and praised “delicious, delicious”.
"The hot pot is so delicious, please cook it again tomorrow", several people said in unison.
