Ho Chi Minh City aspires to rise

On the morning of March 25, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City organized the scientific workshop "Ho Chi Minh City - Achievements in 50 years of construction, protection and development".

This is one of the important activities of Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

For Ho Chi Minh City to always converge and shine

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi emphasized that, in the honor, pride and responsibility of the city to be named after the great President Ho Chi Minh; looking back together on the journey we have traveled to steadily move forward, summarizing the reality, clarifying the basis of the goals and tasks of building, protecting and developing the city with a scientific and revolutionary spirit is an extremely important and necessary task to continue moving forward in the period of comprehensively promoting the cause of innovation, implementing industrialization and modernization of the country, firmly protecting the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi said that in the first 10 years after liberation (1975 - 1985), the city overcame a difficult and complicated period to maintain political and social stability, heal the wounds of war, restore and develop the economy. Entering the period of comprehensive renovation, from the 6th National Party Congress (1986) to the present, the city has strived to rise up, develop production, and gradually affirm its position as "the economic locomotive of the whole country".

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi affirmed that the achievements of 50 years of building, protecting and developing the city are thanks to the attention, leadership and direction of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the National Assembly, the Government, the wholehearted and effective support of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the central departments, ministries, branches and organizations; it is the crystallization of the efforts of the city's leaders, cadres, soldiers and people of all periods to have Ho Chi Minh City today - a new look, new vitality, new stature.

"Ho Chi Minh City is full of aspirations to rise up. In realizing that aspiration, revolutionary tradition, dynamic solidarity, innovation, and humanity will be the driving force for the city to always converge and shine in the new era of development of the country," Mr. Nghi shared.

The City Party Committee leader said that the city focused on implementing 55 city-level programs, works and projects in 6 groups of fields: culture - society with 18 programs, works and projects; economy with 6 programs, works and projects; urban areas with 19 programs, works and projects; science - technology, innovation with 4 works; administrative reform with 3 projects; national defense - security, foreign affairs with 5 programs.
At the same time, agencies, units and localities have registered to implement 1,362 projects... Many important projects and works related to improving people's quality of life and building a sustainable and environmentally friendly city will be completed on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi hopes that through this important workshop, there will be many dedicated and practical contributions, enriching the mettle, knowledge and practical capacity in the leadership and direction of the Party Committee and the management and operation of the city government; strengthening the strength of the entire political system, closely attached to the people, relying on the people to build, protect and develop Ho Chi Minh City to be civilized, modern, and affectionate, always worthy of being the City named after beloved Uncle Ho - the Heroic City.

"Fence-breaking" is the brand of Ho Chi Minh City

At the workshop, Major General, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Quang Dao - former Director of the Vietnam Military History Institute (Ministry of National Defense) said that the people of Ho Chi Minh City have the right to be proud of the brilliant victory of the Great Spring Victory, of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, and of the everlasting values that the Party Committee and people of the city created during the two resistance wars against invaders.

“We are even more proud because not only did the city “go first and finish last” gloriously in the resistance war, but it has also been leading in the construction of socialism, leading for the whole country, together with the whole country in the fight against poverty and backwardness with the goal of “going first, finishing first” to build a civilized, modern, and humane city,” Mr. Vu Quang Dao emphasized.

50 years 2 — *The city has been, is and will be strongly developing transport infrastructure to create favorable conditions for rapid economic growth.*

Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Xuan Bien - former Head of the Ideology and Culture Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee acknowledged that over the past half century, the phrase "Ho Chi Minh City - heroic city" has been closely associated with each other, reflecting both the noble title that the Party and State have bestowed upon the city, and also being a great source of motivation for the city to always firmly overcome many obstacles, continuously achieving great victories in the cause of construction and development.

According to Mr. Phan Xuan Bien, after liberation, the socio-economic situation was extremely difficult, prices increased rapidly, inflation increased, at times reaching 740%, people's lives declined miserably. In the process of overcoming difficulties, the city was one of the outstanding bright spots, the heroic spirit and nature from the fierce and arduous years in the key battlefield were awakened.

Mr. Bien said that the innovations of Ho Chi Minh City were initially considered as "breaking the fence", "breaking the fence", but were later recognized as the "first breakthrough" of the Renovation process, as "dynamism, creativity", "dare to think, dare to do, dare to take responsibility", heroic personality characteristics that have become attributes and brands of the city.

In the 4 Resolutions of the Politburo on Ho Chi Minh City (1982, 2002, 2012, 2022), the city's position as a "major economic center", "the largest urban area in the country" was affirmed and the city's role as a "locomotive" was mentioned twice.

It is known that the Organizing Committee of the Conference received more than 100 presentations and many opinions from leaders and former leaders of Central agencies, provinces and cities; from veteran revolutionaries; leaders of the city from different periods; from districts, departments, branches, sectors, organizations of the City, scientists and researchers.
