In 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City industry and trade sector will focus on implementing a series of key projects, including starting construction of at least one logistics center before April 30, 2025.
On January 7, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade to organize a conference to summarize the industry and trade sector in 2024 and deploy the plan for 2025.
Mr. Le Huynh Minh Tu, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, informed that the industry and trade sector's targets in 2024 continued to achieve outstanding results such as the total retail sales of goods in 2024 are estimated at VND 565,013 billion, an increase of 10.6% compared to 2023 (same period increased by 9.6%); the industrial production index (IIP) in 2024 is estimated to increase by 7.3% over the same period (same period increased by 4.3%)...
In addition, the total export turnover of Ho Chi Minh City enterprises through the country's border gates in 2024 is estimated to reach 46.97 billion USD, up 10.6% compared to 2023 (down 8.64% in the same period). The export situation tends to recover, with many enterprises receiving enough orders until the end of the first quarter of 2025.

However, in addition to the achieved results, the industry and trade sector will also face challenges in 2024. In particular, export enterprises will face many difficulties due to increased freight rates and fluctuating exchange rates, which have affected import, production and export plans.
In addition, businesses are facing difficulties in expanding the market and conquering consumers because after the Covid-19 pandemic, people are increasingly tightening their spending, and market purchasing power is decreasing. At the same time, the exploitation and development of land funds for industrial production is still slow; although some key programs and projects of the industry have been focused on implementation, the results achieved have not yet met the requirements.
Therefore, there are still many issues that need to be urgently implemented in the coming time. The focus is on building Ho Chi Minh City into a large service center of the country and the region with high-class, modern, high-value-added service industries; building an International Exhibition Center; investing in installing rooftop solar power systems at administrative agencies, public service units, and headquarters of agencies and units identified as public assets in the city; building...
“At the same time, in response to the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), the Department of Industry and Trade coordinates with relevant units to focus on advising on accelerating the investment progress in developing a synchronous logistics infrastructure system, including the construction and commencement of at least one logistics center in Ho Chi Minh City,” said Mr. Tu.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee shared at the conference. |
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, commented that these are important projects, contributing to the overall socio-economic achievements of Ho Chi Minh City. At the same time, the Ho Chi Minh City planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, has just been approved by the Prime Minister. The decision has been made, how we implement it in practice to achieve good results is extremely important.
Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City industry and trade sector needs to improve the efficiency of capital access for businesses through the program of connecting with banks. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to implementing Resolution 09 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in supporting loan interest rates to stimulate investment to create more resources for the business community.
Regarding businesses and associations, Mr. Dung suggested that units approach and study the planning of Ho Chi Minh City and related policies and programs, in order to build development strategies and business plans, and take advantage of opportunities.
“There is also a need for solutions to support the strong development of domestic trade to effectively exploit the domestic market and implement regional linkages through organizing consumer stimulus programs, concentrated promotions…”, the Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee shared.
