The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training may continue to organize additional enrollment for grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year. This decision will be made based on the actual application situation at high schools and the needs of the schools.
This information is stated in the draft plan for 10th grade admission for the 2025-2026 school year of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training. According to the draft, students can register for a maximum of 8 wishes, including 3 wishes for regular 10th grade, 2 wishes for specialized 10th grade and 3 wishes for integrated 10th grade.

Admission methods include entrance exams and selection. Entrance exams apply to public high schools, organized according to the instructions of the Department of Education and Training. Selection applies to private schools, continuing education schools and one junior high school-high school in Can Gio district.
The entrance exam is divided into 2 phases. In phase 1, students register 3 priority wishes to take the entrance exam for grade 10 at public high schools. In phase 2, the Department of Education and Training will decide to recruit additional students if necessary, to ensure the rights of candidates and to recruit enough students for schools that are lacking.
Candidates will take 3 essay subjects: Math, Literature (120 minutes/subject) and Foreign Language (90 minutes). Students are not allowed to change their preferences after registering and receiving the admission results.
Last year, Ho Chi Minh City recruited additional students for grade 10 at 35 high schools with more than 2,203 quotas, of which 1,400 students were admitted. In the 2024 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have about 116,000 junior high school graduates, more than 98,000 candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam, and about 77,300 students will be admitted.
