"The situation in the European region, especially in Ukraine, is of particular concern. Western countries are deliberately escalating tensions. They themselves are responsible for the current tragedy and they continue to aggravate the situation," President Putin said at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of Russia and Belarus on December 6.

"Such an irresponsible policy is pushing the world to the brink of a global conflict," Mr. Putin warned.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced today that Russia and Belarus will sign a treaty on mutual security guarantees in the interests of both countries.

“This is a completely reciprocal initiative. The nature of the events suggests the need for such a document,” Peskov said.

Previously, in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson published on December 5, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Western European countries of wanting to advance to Russia's borders by using Ukrainian territory.

"Western Europe wants to come to our borders through Ukraine. And there are plans being discussed almost openly about placing British naval bases on the Sea of Azov. Crimea is being eyed. They are thinking about creating a NATO base in Crimea…", the Russian foreign minister added, referring to the Crimean peninsula in southern Ukraine, which Russia annexed in 2014.

President Putin said on November 19 that Ukraine had fired six US-made ATACMS missiles into Russia's Bryansk border region, and continued to fire British-supplied long-range Storm Shadow missiles into the Kursk region a day later.

According to Mr. Putin, since that time, the Ukrainian conflict previously provoked by the West has turned into a global war.

Mr Putin recalled that the US and its NATO allies had previously said they would allow Kiev to use aid weapons to attack Russia. He had stressed that such a move would change the nature of the conflict and turn NATO into a direct participant in the fighting.

The Kremlin chief also argued that Ukraine could not carry out a long-range strike without the participation of Western military personnel.

Hungarian Prime Minister: US plays decisive role in Ukraine conflict

In an interview with Kossuth Radio on December 6, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the United States played a decisive role in the conflict in Ukraine.

"The United States is one of the main participants in this war. Without the United States, this war would never have happened. Ukraine would not have been able to resist without the support of the United States," Mr. Orban declared.

According to official figures, as of September 30, Washington had allocated a total of nearly $183 billion in aid to Ukraine, with $130.1 billion pledged and $86.7 billion disbursed.

Earlier this week, the US State Department announced $725 million in aid to Kiev, including air defense weapons, ammunition for missile and artillery systems, and anti-tank weapons.

Mr Orban said US President Joe Biden wanted to increase the scale of the conflict, while President-elect Donald Trump was a "peace advocate".

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently called on Ukraine to lower the conscription age from the current 25. Prime Minister Orban described this as “terrible, because it could lead to more Ukrainian deaths”.
