Russia announces control of more villages in Ukraine

Russia announced on March 29 that it had taken control of two more villages in eastern and southern Ukraine, continuing to accelerate its advance while US President Donald Trump's efforts to persuade both sides to cease fire have yet to really bring results.

TASS quoted an announcement from the Russian Defense Ministry saying that Moscow forces captured the village of Shchebraki in the southern province of Zaporizhzhia and the village of Panteleimonivka in the eastern province of Donetsk.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in the early morning of March 29, Russia deployed more than 170 drones to attack targets in Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Khmelnytskyi, according to Reuters.

Russia has not commented on the information, but the Russian Defense Ministry accused the enemy of attacking the power grid in the Belgorod region, causing about 9,000 households to lose power. Moscow criticized Kyiv for violating an agreement to stop attacking each other's energy infrastructure.

Meanwhile, at the Kursk front, the Russian Defense Ministry said that on March 29, Ukrainian forces lost more than 190 soldiers within 24 hours.

Ukraine has not commented on the information released by Russia.

Ukraine says Russia preparing for new campaign

As tensions continue to rise on the front line, the Kyiv government and its military analysts warn that Russian forces will launch a new offensive in the coming weeks to put maximum pressure on Ukraine and strengthen Russia's advantage at the negotiating table, according to AP on March 29.

Ukrainian officials say the move could give Russian President Vladimir Putin a reason to delay efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in order to expand his control over Ukraine.

Citing intelligence sources, President Zelensky said that Russia is preparing for new attacks in Sumy, Kharkiv and Zaporizizhia.

Ukrainian military commanders believe that Russia has recently stepped up attacks to improve its tactical positions before launching an expanded military campaign in the near future.

"They need to extend the time until May," AP quoted Ukrainian analyst Pavlo Narozhnyi.

Russia is also said to be stepping up its spying activities to increase information gathering for the next phase. The Moscow government has not commented on Kyiv's analysis.

Ukraine receives financial resources from the International Monetary Fund

IMF disburses $400 million to Ukraine

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said it has completed checks to allow the disbursement of $400 million to Ukraine through the budget support channel, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

Based on the analysis, the IMF believes that Ukraine's economy remains resilient despite challenging changes.

However, the IMF added that Ukraine's economic growth rate, after slowing in the second half of 2024, will continue to stagnate in 2025 due to a tightening labor market and attacks on energy infrastructure.

After completing the review, the IMF said the latest disbursement would bring the total amount disbursed under its Ukraine assistance program to $10.1 billion.

This is also the seventh assessment of the program worth up to $15.5 billion for Ukraine.

Kyiv relies heavily on foreign financial aid to run its government and support its economy.
