Meet you again through sacred relics

The Department of Social Policy, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army and the Military Command of Khanh Hoa province have just coordinated to organize a ceremony to hand over the relics and mementos of martyrs to their families. The ceremony took place in a solemn and emotional atmosphere, like a sacred meeting between the past and the present, when the relics and mementos of martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the resistance war against the French were handed over to their families.

Sacred relics of loyal soldiers

In a solemn and profound atmosphere, at the hall of the Provincial Military Command, Colonel Nguyen Manh Hung - Head of the Military Rear Department, Department of Social Policy presented relics and memorabilia of 4 martyrs who fought and sacrificed during the resistance war against the French to the relatives of the families. The presented artifacts include death certificates, personal notebooks, marriage declarations, merit certificates, especially a necklace and a gold ring - simple jewelry but containing many untold stories.

Among them, the most touching artifact is the notebook of martyr Truong Doi. The notebook is as small as the palm of a hand, with nearly 30 pages that have been discolored over the years, but the words are still very clear, not only recording daily life and fighting journeys, but also a spiritual diary, where each stroke is a belief, an ideal of life, an aspiration for independence for the nation. Turning each page of the notebook left by the martyr, we had the deepest emotions when reading the author's 4 articles: "The time has come", "Victory", "North and South are one house" and the poem "Those who will never return". In it, the author recorded Uncle Ho's teachings about the revolutionary opportunity; about the strong will, determined to overcome all difficulties in the resistance war against the French until the final victory; the imagination of the peaceful, independent, happy life of the people after the victorious resistance war, North and South are one house; the heroic sacrifice of comrades left behind in the mountains and forests...

When holding the notebook written by his uncle before his death more than 70 years ago, Mr. Truong Thanh Phong (Ninh Da ward, Ninh Hoa town, nephew of martyr Truong Doi) could not hide his emotion: “Today, I feel like I see Uncle Doi return! Each word in the notebook is his voice, the patriotism and sacrifice of the previous generation for national independence, for peace and happiness of the people. I have heard many stories about him, but this is the first time I have “met” him so closely!” Tears fell - not only from the martyr's relatives but also from witnesses. The officers and soldiers present at the ceremony all felt the sacredness that cannot be described in words!

Not only are they simple artifacts, the relics and mementos left by the martyrs are also living evidence of a heroic period. The plaque praising the merits and the marriage certificate of martyr Do Cat (from Van Ninh district, died in 1954) with the bright red seal, although faded over the years, still echoes the song of the years of resistance and is a testament to the love, attachment and what the soldiers sacrificed for the Fatherland, including their own happiness...

Deep gratitude

The ceremony is not only a form of giving and receiving, but also a profound gratitude, arousing pride and gratitude to the generation of fathers and brothers who fell for the independence and freedom of the nation. The relics and memorabilia handed over are not only personal assets, but also "spiritual treasures" of the whole nation. The work of searching for and verifying the relics and memorabilia of martyrs is always an elaborate, persistent and meaningful process. To achieve today's results, officers and soldiers of many agencies and functional units have not been afraid of hardships, following traces from deep forests, high mountains, from small information lines scattered across battlefields... The relics and memorabilia of martyrs are "bridges of memory", helping the families of martyrs to learn more about the background, fighting journey and sacrifice of their loved ones. Those are also sacred wishes that many families have been waiting for for decades.

At the ceremony, the delegation of the Department of Social Policy and the Provincial Military Command also presented gifts to the families of 4 martyrs and 14 outstanding people in the area, with a total value of more than 41 million VND, deeply expressing the gratitude and concern of the Party, State and army for the great contributions and heroic sacrifices of the martyrs; the contributions of the families of the martyrs and people with merit in the cause of fighting for national independence. Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized: “Searching, collecting, verifying and returning the relics and mementos of martyrs to their families is always a sacred responsibility. In the past, during the war, the whole country had to focus on the front line. On the other hand, over many periods, we did not have the best conditions to manage and preserve them systematically and closely. Therefore, these relics and mementos were sometimes lost and stored in the archives of agencies. However, with its responsibility and affection, the Department of Social Policy has coordinated with local authorities to make efforts to find out and verify relevant information, with the desire to soon bring the relics of martyrs back to their families and loved ones. The relics and mementos of martyrs handed over to their families today, although small, have great spiritual value!”
