On the afternoon of May 22, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with Chairman of the United Russia Party and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federal Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from May 21-23 under the Cooperation Agreement between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the United Russia Party.
In a friendly atmosphere, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong warmly welcomed Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev on his official visit to Vietnam, emphasizing that this was Mr. Medvedev's first visit to Vietnam as Chairman of the ruling United Russia Party.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong informed Party Chairman Medvedev of the achievements and efforts of the State and all Vietnamese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam to achieve unprecedented results in terms of Vietnam's foundation, potential, position and prestige as it has today.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong also outlined the key tasks set by the Communist Party of Vietnam regarding economic, social and cultural development.
In the discussion on Party building as a key task, the General Secretary emphasized that Party building and rectification have changed very positively, the work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity has been directed strongly, systematically, synchronously, resolutely and achieved many results; foreign affairs work has been actively deployed.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong spoke highly of the achievements that the Russian Federation has made under the leadership of President Putin and the United Russia Party.
Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev expressed his pleasure in visiting Vietnam again and respectfully conveyed the greetings and regards of President of the Russian Federation Putin to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Vietnamese leaders. Chairman Medvedev congratulated Vietnam on its dynamic development.
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome that the Party, State and people of Vietnam gave to the delegation, the Chairman of the United Russia Party informed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong about the situation in Russia, the United Russia Party and the relationship with the Party and State of Vietnam, in which the relationship and cooperation on the Party channel are increasingly important.
The Chairman of the United Russia Party agreed with the opinions and assessments of the General Secretary, especially on major directions and measures to promote relations between the two Parties and two countries in the coming time.
The two leaders expressed their delight at the continuation of the good traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and the close cooperation between the two Parties on the basis of high political trust, demonstrated through high-level exchanges between the two countries and the two Parties, including phone calls between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Putin and Chairman of the United Russia Party Medvedev.
Leaders and representatives of the Communist Party of Vietnam have participated in important international inter-party conferences chaired by Party Chairman Medvedev. The two sides have made efforts to overcome difficulties and promote cooperation in many fields such as economics, science, technology, and education.
Emphasizing that Vietnam always appreciates the valuable support and assistance of the people of the Soviet Union and the brotherly Russian people, the General Secretary affirmed that in its foreign policy, Vietnam attaches importance to the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia. The Communist Party of Vietnam attaches importance to developing relations with political parties in Russia, including the United Russia Party, as a political foundation for long-term and sustainable relations between the two countries.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong respectfully requested Chairman of the United Russia Party Medvedev to convey his regards to President Putin and Russian leaders.
The two leaders exchanged their assessments of the current international situation, major directions for promoting positive development in the world, and views on issues of mutual concern.

The two leaders also discussed major orientations to further promote relations between the two Parties and two countries such as: Continuing to enhance mutual understanding and political trust through high-level visits and exchanges in flexible forms; improving the effectiveness and expanding cooperation in economics, science, technology, culture, education and other fields according to agreements between the two sides;
Pay attention to and nurture the young generation, enhance exchanges between mass and youth organizations of the two Parties; promote bilateral and multilateral trade and investment cooperation mechanisms and frameworks; enhance information exchange on international situations, cooperation between foreign affairs agencies of the two countries, and coordination at international forums.
Before the talks, the United Russia Party delegation laid wreaths at the Monument to the Heroes and Martyrs, visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and met with the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association.
On this occasion, the two sides issued a Joint Statement on the results of the official visit to Vietnam by Chairman of the United Russia Party Medvedev with the aim of enhancing cooperation on regional and international issues to consolidate peace and security for the benefit of the people of the two countries; protecting and strengthening the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter; continuing to promote bilateral relations in the spirit of documents and agreements signed between the high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and two countries.
