The coming period is promising with the prospect of another strong quarter of growth for Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), a multinational video game and digital entertainment company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation Japan, headquartered in San Mateo, California, USA.

SIE President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Hiroki Totoki said that Sony will release at least one major single-player game every year starting in fiscal 2025 (April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026). According to Hiroki Totoki, Sony has gained valuable experience from the failure of the ill-fated Concord game.

This is good news for video game lovers, especially gamers who prefer interesting single-player titles like God of War Ragnarök, Elden Ring or Horizon Forbidden West. Nowadays, gamers are no longer interested in online service games and are shifting to high-quality single-player.

To meet this demand, Sony is planning to launch many attractive single-player games in the near future.

According to experts, the new strategy is reasonable and can bring high profits for Sony. Although PlayStation 5 (PS 5) home console users can experience a number of exclusive single-player titles in 2024, none of them are developed by Sony. The game called The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered can be considered an exception, but it is not a new game.

On November 8, Sony announced relatively positive business results for the second quarter of fiscal 2024 (July-September 2024). In this quarter, Sony's revenue and operating profit reached 2,970 billion yen (19.4 billion USD) and 455.1 billion yen, up 9% and 73% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.

According to Sony, the game and network services segments contributed to the positive business results. Revenue from Sony's game and network services segment in the second quarter of fiscal 2024 reached 1,000 billion yen, up 12% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Sony sold 3.8 million PS 5 consoles in the second quarter of fiscal 2024, down 22% from the same period in the previous fiscal year. And Sony's game sales in the quarter also increased 28% to 612.3 billion yen. Sony's PS 5 exclusive Astro Bot alone sold 1.5 million units in the first 58 days since its launch in September 2024.
