Sputnik news agency reported that the main topics of discussion during Russia's month as President of the UNSC will be the Middle East solution, the new global "security equation" and the UN's cooperation with regional organizations such as the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
In an interview, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that Moscow had planned the three important events during its presidency of the Security Council.
In particular, an open debate on multilateral cooperation to build a more just, democratic and sustainable world order is scheduled for July 16. At this meeting, Russia will raise the issue of a new global “security equation”.
An open debate on the topic of resolving the situation in the Middle East is scheduled to take place on July 17.
Both meetings on July 16 and 17 are scheduled to be chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. It is unclear what will happen with the issuance of US visas to the foreign minister and his delegation.
On July 19, the third important event of Russia's presidency is scheduled to take place: a debate at the UNSC on cooperation between the UN and regional organizations, namely the CSTO, CIS and SCO.
Among other issues, during Russia's presidency of the UN Security Council, a discussion may also take place on the attack by the Ukrainian army with US ATACMS missiles on the beach in Sevastopol.
The UNSC is the permanent body of the United Nations, primarily responsible for maintaining international peace and security. The presidency of the UNSC rotates from country to country every month. South Korea chaired the UNSC in June. |
