Injecting 2 types of vaccines at the same time, a woman suffered anaphylactic shock

On March 19, People's Hospital 115 announced that it had just admitted a 34-year-old female patient with grade II anaphylaxis after being injected with two vaccines at the same time: Q-Dengue (to prevent dengue fever) and Fluvac (to prevent flu).

The patient had no abnormal symptoms during the first 30 minutes of monitoring at the medical facility. However, about 2 hours after returning home, the patient developed itchy skin, a red rash all over the body, fatigue and difficulty breathing. The patient was immediately taken to the Emergency Department, diagnosed with grade II anaphylaxis and promptly treated according to the Ministry of Health's anaphylaxis treatment protocol. After 24 hours of monitoring, the patient was stable and discharged from the hospital.

According to doctors at People's Hospital 115, anaphylaxis is an acute allergic reaction that can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. Anaphylaxis after vaccination can occur within a few minutes to a few hours after vaccination and is divided into 4 levels: level I anaphylaxis (mild) with symptoms on the skin such as itching, hives, mild edema; level II anaphylaxis (severe) the patient will have difficulty breathing, chest tightness, angioedema, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea; level III anaphylaxis (critical) the patient will have anaphylactic shock, low blood pressure, impaired consciousness and level IV anaphylaxis the patient will have cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, life-threatening. "Although anaphylaxis is rare, if not treated promptly, the patient may die," the doctor informed.

The hospital recommends that vaccines are an effective measure to help prevent many infectious diseases such as dengue fever, flu, measles, diphtheria, etc. Thanks to vaccination, many epidemics have been controlled and prevented, protecting public health. However, like all drugs, vaccines can also cause some side effects. Most post-injection reactions are mild, such as fever, pain at the injection site, and fatigue. However, in some rare cases, anaphylaxis can occur, requiring prompt treatment to avoid danger to life.

To ensure safety during vaccination, everyone needs to be screened before vaccination. If you have a history of drug or food allergies, or severe reactions after previous vaccinations, you need to notify your doctor immediately when getting vaccinated for advice. Do not get multiple vaccines at the same time, unless specifically directed by your doctor. Stay at the medical facility for at least 30 minutes after vaccination to detect any unusual reactions early. At the same time, monitor yourself at home for 24-48 hours after vaccination, paying attention to signs such as rash, difficulty breathing, and unusual fatigue. If there are signs of suspected anaphylaxis, go to the nearest medical facility immediately.
