On March 19, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, Austria, had a working session with Ms. Floriane Bacconnier, Head of the Permanent Observer Office of INTERPOL at the United Nations.

Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang said that since joining INTERPOL in 1991, Vietnamese authorities have fulfilled their roles and obligations as an active and responsible member country.

Through the INTERPOL cooperation channel, Vietnamese authorities have achieved many results in preventing and combating crimes involving foreign elements and transnational crimes.

INTERPOL is an effective network for Vietnamese authorities to proactively and actively cooperate closely with authorities of other countries in sharing information, exchanging experiences in fighting and preventing crime; coordinating investigation and handling of transnational organized crimes, and capturing many internationally wanted subjects.

In addition, Vietnam has been actively cooperating with other countries and INTERPOL in training and coaching to improve law enforcement capacity and practices in preventing and combating transnational crimes.

The Ambassador highly appreciated INTERPOL's role in coordinating global police cooperation activities in crime prevention and combat; and congratulated the impressive results that INTERPOL has achieved recently in the fight against transnational organized crime globally, especially terrorism and cybercrime.

Most recently, INTERPOL has actively participated and made valuable contributions to the successful development of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, which is expected to be opened for signature in Hanoi in 2025.

Believing that permanent missions play an important role in connecting and promoting substantive cooperation between INTERPOL and domestic authorities, Ms. Floriane Bacconnier hopes to work closely with the Vietnamese Delegation in the coming time to implement a number of new initiatives to enhance the good and effective cooperation between INTERPOL and countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Vietnam.

In addition, according to her, INTERPOL hopes that Vietnam will successfully organize the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime and soon put it into effect. This Convention affirms the important role of INTERPOL in promoting international cooperation, especially the rapid and secure exchange of information on cybercrime and related crimes.

Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang expressed his hope that Vietnam and INTERPOL will continue to promote cooperation to fully implement the responsibilities of a member country and improve the effectiveness of preventing and combating transnational crimes in Vietnam.

At the same time, as Chair of the Asia-Pacific Group of international organizations in Vienna, Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge to further promote cooperation between INTERPOL and regional countries to contribute to maintaining an environment of peace, stability, security, safety and sustainable development.
