Previously, during the meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the President of Indonesia on January 12, the two sides agreed that economic and trade cooperation is a bright spot in the bilateral relationship. Indonesia remains Vietnam's third largest trading partner and Vietnam is Indonesia's fourth largest trading partner in ASEAN with trade turnover in the first 11 months of 2023 reaching nearly 13 billion USD. The two sides strive to bring bilateral trade turnover to 15 billion USD soon and higher at 18 billion USD before 2028.

The two sides agreed to facilitate and encourage businesses from both countries to invest in each other's markets; expand cooperation to new areas such as artificial intelligence, digital economy, green economy, renewable energy, investment in developing electric vehicle ecosystems and electric vehicle batteries; expand cooperation programs within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JTEP); strengthen cooperation in the Halal field; strengthen cooperation in food security, research and promote the signing of a rice trade agreement, etc.

At the dialogue, businesses from both sides expressed their interest in the economic development policies of the two countries; policy mechanisms and solutions to enhance investment cooperation in the fields of the two economies. Delegates also shared about new development and investment trends, investment orientations in the coming time; and at the same time, made proposals to improve the effectiveness of cooperation, aiming at the common success of businesses in each country.

Speaking at the dialogue, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that Indonesia and Vietnam have a common vision of striving to become high-income countries by 2045. To realize that vision, the two sides need to increase dialogue and high-quality cooperation. The President said that Indonesia has development potential and has opened a carbon trading floor; and is promoting the development of the electric vehicle industry.

President Joko Widodo welcomed and hoped that leading Vietnamese enterprises would cooperate and invest more in Indonesia, helping Indonesia realize its goals, especially investing in the new capital area of Nusantara of Indonesia.
The Indonesian President wants VinFast to expand its investment in the electric vehicle sector; Vietjet Air to open more routes to tourist destinations in Indonesia; Sovico Group to invest in tourism and real estate projects; FPT Software to invest in the technology sector. In addition, the President wants more Vietnamese investors to invest in Indonesia in the fields of banking, finance, education, science and technology, manufacturing, etc.

For his part, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh shared the vision of the Indonesian President; he said that President Joko Widodo's visit to Vietnam and the President's opinions at the seminar were important, and at the same time created motivation and inspiration for businesses to promote cooperation and investment.
Analyzing the current global context, the Prime Minister suggested that with its role in ASEAN, Indonesia, Vietnam and other countries should strengthen solidarity within ASEAN, for the development of each country and for the goal of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
The Prime Minister assessed that the vision of becoming a high-income developed country by 2045 of the two countries requires the participation of the people and businesses of the two countries, and mutual support. The ideas of the business communities of the two countries presented at the Dialogue focused on emerging fields and startups, demonstrating great determination and desire to work with the two governments to promote bilateral relations to new heights.
The Prime Minister welcomed the determination and efforts of businesses from both countries in development cooperation; he said that after nearly 70 years of establishment, Vietnam-Indonesia relations have continuously developed, in which economic cooperation is a bright spot. However, economic cooperation has not been commensurate with the level of political relations, the scale of the economy, the population of the two countries, as well as the wishes of both sides.

Therefore, there is no reason why businesses from both countries should not come to explore opportunities and continue to connect and promote investment to realize high-level agreements and ideas and goals of the two countries, quickly overcoming difficulties in the context of the current complex and unpredictable world, the Prime Minister emphasized.

The Prime Minister said that Vietnam encourages businesses to invest in emerging economic sectors such as digital economy, green economy, circular economy, knowledge economy, sharing economy and other sectors in which Indonesia has strengths and Vietnam has other needs such as Halal food industry, agriculture, etc.; hopes that Indonesian businesses will cooperate and support Vietnamese businesses to participate in the supply chain in Indonesia and globally.
Further analysis, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam has strengths in agriculture and conditions for producing Halal food processing ingredients; he hopes that Indonesian businesses will come to Vietnam to cooperate, invest, and produce Halal food. The Prime Minister also supports President Joko Widodo's desire to attract investment in Indonesia's new capital, so that together with Indonesia, they can soon achieve the set goals.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always creates the best conditions for businesses, including Indonesian businesses, to invest and do business stably, long-term and successfully in Vietnam, including perfecting institutions, building infrastructure and training human resources, with the motto "open policies and institutions, smooth infrastructure, smart governance" for businesses to invest conveniently.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam always protects the legitimate and legal rights and interests of enterprises, including Indonesian enterprises, in the spirit of "harmonized benefits, shared risks", "harmonized interests between the State, people, and enterprises"; at the same time, always listens and dialogues with enterprises to actively consider and properly handle their proposals; hopes that enterprises "say what they do, commit to do it effectively".
