Prime Minister wishes to have Vietnamese leaders at Samsung Group

On the morning of July 30, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and worked at Samsung Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd., Yen Phong Industrial Park, Bac Ninh.

Reporting to the Prime Minister, Mr. Choi Joo Hoo - General Director of Samsung Vietnam Complex said that Samsung Group - Korea has 6 factories in Vietnam specializing in manufacturing electronic products, smart electronic devices, household appliances, research and development and technology transfer with a total investment of about 20 billion USD, of which, Bac Ninh province has 3 factories.

To date, Samsung Vietnam has exported products to more than 128 countries and territories with an annual output of 160 million devices, accounting for 50% of total global production; export turnover in 2022 reached 65 billion USD, accounting for 17.4% of Vietnam's export turnover; creating jobs for more than 96,000 workers; contributing more than 10,000 billion VND to the State budget annually. Currently, there are 51 Vietnamese enterprises that have become Samsung's Tier 1 suppliers.

Mr. Choi Joo Ho expressed his gratitude to the Government and Bac Ninh province for supporting and facilitating Samsung's operations over the past 15 years.

At the working session, responding specifically to the proposals and recommendations of Samsung Vietnam, leaders of ministries and branches affirmed that Vietnam ensures consistent implementation of policies committed to investors, always pays attention to and attaches importance to improving the investment environment; promotes infrastructure development, improves the quality of logistics services, coordinates with enterprises in training human resources... with the aim of creating favorable conditions for foreign enterprises to operate production and business stably and long-term in Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam and South Korea have a comprehensive strategic partnership. South Korea is the largest foreign investment partner in Vietnam, the second largest in tourism and labor development cooperation, and the third largest in trade cooperation. Of which, Samsung accounts for 25% of the total investment capital of South Korea in Vietnam, which demonstrates Samsung's effective operations in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister thanked Samsung for choosing Vietnam as a long-term strategic investment base; actively participating in social security activities, creating jobs, and improving the lives of workers.

Over the past 2 years, the Prime Minister has made 4 visits and worked at Samsung facilities in Vietnam, and 5 meetings and discussions with Samsung leaders. This affirms the Government's interest in non-state enterprises, including foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises; the spirit of listening, receptiveness, specific cooperation, responsibility, bringing specific results, satisfaction for both sides, in the spirit of harmonizing interests between the State, enterprises and people, harmonizing interests, sharing risks between Vietnam and FDI enterprises.

The Prime Minister said that in the new period, Vietnam's development will mainly rely on science, technology and innovation, taking people as the goal, the subject of resources and the driving force for development. Samsung also develops in this direction, so the two sides meet at the big direction and believe that the two sides will reach the same goal.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that Samsung will continue to consider Vietnam as a strategic production base, researching, developing and manufacturing key products for the international market, operating sustainably and long-term in Vietnam, doing business in accordance with the law; contributing to training high-quality human resources for Vietnam; contributing to improving the management capacity in a modern direction for Vietnam and Bac Ninh province; contributing to building and perfecting the socialist-oriented market economic institution.

The Vietnamese Government leaders hope that Samsung will invest more heavily in the fields of digital transformation, green transformation, and circular economy; take better care of the material and spiritual lives of workers, especially female workers; and pay attention to training and developing a team of Vietnamese managers and leaders at Samsung.

The Prime Minister suggested that both sides work together, try, be proactive and creative to resolve difficulties and challenges; emphasizing that the Vietnamese Government will continue to create all favorable conditions for the group to invest in effective, stable and long-term business, continue to expand and develop sustainably in Vietnam.
