On the morning of March 4, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a discussion with large Korean corporations and enterprises.
At the seminar, Mr. Ko Tae Yeon, Chairman of the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (KoCham), assessed that Vietnam has recorded impressive FDI attraction, especially 7 billion USD from Korea in 2024, an increase of 37% compared to 2023, bringing the total investment from the East Asian country to 92 billion USD. Currently, there are about 10,000 Korean enterprises operating in Vietnam, creating more than 900,000 jobs.
Mr. Ko Tae Yeon emphasized that in order for Vietnam to become a high-tech center, it is necessary to strongly attract FDI in the fields of semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and green energy.
Korean enterprises are ready to cooperate closely and accompany Vietnam on the journey of developing a green and sustainable economy.
The survey shows that 82% of Korean businesses currently believe in the Government's ability to respond to global fluctuations and have high expectations for upcoming investment attraction policies.
Proposing to the Prime Minister, the Chairman of KoCham hopes that Korean enterprises will be able to participate in key projects such as the North-South high-speed railway and nuclear power, from design to human resource training.
During the discussion, large corporations such as Samsung, LG, SK, Hyundai Thanh Cong, CJ, Lotte... proposed that the Government provide investment opportunities in Vietnam's semiconductors, renewable energy, high technology, logistics, biotechnology and advanced materials.
Mr. Na Ki Hong, General Director of Samsung Vietnam, highly appreciated the Decree on Vietnam's Investment Support Fund, considering it a testament to the Government's efforts to protect investors.
He emphasized that many countries consider the semiconductor and AI industries as national security issues and have implemented strong support policies. Vietnam is also following this trend, with incentive mechanisms being built, including the Law on Digital Technology Industry. Samsung and many foreign investors hope that the Government will have substantive incentive policies, creating favorable conditions for making investment decisions.
Other Korean businesses also recommended that the Government soon stabilize policies, perfect the legal framework, increase support for high-tech industries, simplify import-export procedures, modernize logistics, improve import taxes and VAT refunds.
In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister called on Korean businesses to share experiences, promote the startup ecosystem through venture capital funds, connect businesses of the two countries, and participate in innovation centers in Vietnam.
The Prime Minister asked large corporations to support Vietnam in establishing scientific research centers, sending Korean experts to work in Vietnam, and accepting Vietnamese workers to Korea.
The Prime Minister also hopes that Korean businesses will expand investment in high technology, clean technology, innovation, semiconductors, AI, renewable energy, digital finance, bio-healthcare and smart manufacturing.
The Head of Government stressed the need for cooperation in processing and manufacturing industries, infrastructure, telecommunications, tourism, culture and entertainment.
Regarding the concerns and proposals of Korean delegates on Vietnam-US economic relations, US policies and Vietnam's responses and solutions, the Prime Minister affirmed that the two countries are comprehensive strategic partners, with many karmic ties and characteristics different from other partners.
At the same time, Vietnam is actively removing obstacles for its US partners in a fair and reasonable manner. The Ministry of Finance is currently reviewing reasonable and harmonious tax policies to ensure mutual benefits.
"This week, the Government will have a meeting to review and propose new policies in line with current US policies, promoting trade in a more balanced direction," the Prime Minister emphasized.
