On the morning of November 5, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to leave Hanoi to attend the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang; and also attend the 10th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy Summit (ACMECS), the 11th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV) Summit and work in China from November 5 to 8.
The official delegation accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the working trip included: Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan; Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat; Government Inspector General Doan Hong Phong; Minister, Chairman of the Ethnic Committee Hau A Lenh; Secretary of Lai Chau Provincial Party Committee Giang Pao My, Secretary of Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee Tran Quoc Cuong; Secretary of Cao Bang Provincial Party Committee Tran Hong Minh; General Director of the Voice of Vietnam Do Tien Sy; Deputy Minister of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien; Deputy Minister of Public Security, Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen; Deputy Head of the Government Office Nguyen Sy Hiep; Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai; Consulate General of Vietnam in Kunming, China Hoang Minh Son.
These are the first direct high-level activities of the GMS (every 3 years), ACMECS and CLMV (every 2 years) mechanisms since 2018.
Vietnam always attaches importance to Mekong sub-regional cooperation mechanisms, in which GMS and ACMECS are considered as mechanisms of strategic significance, associated with Vietnam's leading important partners; and CLMV is considered as a mechanism to increase the support and interest of the international community for the development of the Mekong sub-region.
At the mechanisms, Vietnam demonstrated proactive and active participation, demonstrated responsibility in contributing to the common interests of the region, improved the effectiveness of sub-regional cooperation, and effectively mobilized external resources to serve national development.
The Prime Minister’s working trip this time takes place in the context of the friendly neighborly relationship, the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the “Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of Strategic Significance” which are increasingly developing, deepening, comprehensively and sustainably. The highlight is the high-level visits between the two countries in recent times.
Economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and China has seen many substantial developments, with bilateral trade turnover reaching 171.9 billion USD in 2023.
China remains Vietnam's largest trading partner and second largest export market. Vietnam is China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and China's fifth largest partner in the world.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip conveyed the message that Vietnam always attaches importance to and contributes to promoting the GMS, ACMECS, CLMV mechanisms, as well as the overall Mekong sub-regional cooperation to create breakthroughs in the new development stage.
At the same time, continue to consolidate and promote the friendly neighborly relationship, the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the “Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of Strategic Significance” to develop more deeply, comprehensively and sustainably./.
