According to plan, the longest mountain tunnel on the North-South expressway in the Eastern region in the 2021-2025 period (phase 2) will be dug and opened by the end of March 2025.
Speaking with Giao thong Newspaper, a representative of Project Management Board 2 (investor) said that on the North-South expressway, Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section, 3 mountain tunnel projects are under construction and are meeting and exceeding the schedule.
Of which, tunnel No. 1 and tunnel No. 2 have been basically completed about 4 months ahead of schedule, and are expected to be fully completed by June 30, 2025.
"As for tunnel No. 3 - the longest tunnel project of the North - South Expressway phase 2 (3,200m), as of early February 2025, the excavation work has been completed about 4,860/6,400 md (76%), pouring concrete for the tunnel lining of 1,550m. The contractor is striving to dig through tunnel No. 3 by the end of March 2025, creating the premise to complete tunnel 3 in December 2025", informed a representative of Project Management Board 2.
Although the contractor is focusing on speeding up the progress of the tunnel projects, according to the investor, currently, the total construction output of the entire project is about 55%, about 7% behind schedule.
The reason is that the weather in the Central region has a rainy and stormy season and almost continuous rain from October to the end of December 2024, leading to limited implementation progress (from October 1 to December 31, 2024, construction can only be completed for about 15/92 days).
The main route site clearance work will not be completed until June 30, 2024. By the end of May 2024, the local authorities will confirm that the specific material mines have met their needs.
During the implementation process, the contractor encountered some arising situations such as: Some households near the route still obstructed the construction due to cracks in their houses. In sections passing through residential areas, people did not allow pile drilling, roadbed rolling beyond 20:00, and material transportation beyond 19:00; The route from the material mines to the construction site on a small local road, limited load capacity, affecting the overtime plan.
Assessing that the weather in the Central region is now favorable, the leader of Project Management Board 2 said that right after the Lunar New Year, the unit requested contractors to organize construction teams simultaneously, focusing on implementing items that can speed up production such as: bridges, underpasses, culverts of all kinds, crushed stone aggregate, crushed stone aggregate reinforced with cement, asphalt concrete pavement, etc.
Based on the actual implementation on site, the investor and contractor have planned the completion of each bid package.
In package XL1, the bridge section will be completed before June 30, 2025, and the road section will be completed before August 30, 2025.
In the XL2 package, the section Km35+00 - Km37+070 of Deo Ca - Phu Hien Vinh Construction Company; the section Km37+070 - Km39+779 of Deo Ca - Asia Construction Company; the section Km39+779 - Km43+670 of Udideco Company strives to be completed by August 31, 2025.
For package XL3, complete the construction of crushed stone, cement reinforcement, asphalt concrete and tunnel excavation No. 3 by the end of March 2025 as a basis for completing tunnel No. 3 by December 31, 2025.
Previously, maintaining a continuous construction pace at the construction site, from January 25, 2025 to January 31, 2025 (from December 26, 2024 lunar calendar to January 2, 2025 lunar calendar), at the entire Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon project site, contractors maintained nearly 300 workers, more than 200 locomotives and equipment on all 3 bid packages, organizing 19 simultaneous construction teams for all items: asphalt concrete, roadbed excavation, crushed stone grading, tunnels...
