In 1938, Mr. Wei Sihao was born into a poor family in Dongyang (Zhejiang, China). Since childhood, he was passionate about learning and exploring knowledge. Although he was born in a difficult time when there was not enough food, he still focused on studying: "I would rather starve than drop out of school."

With his tireless efforts, in 1957, he was admitted to Hangzhou University (now Zhejiang University) majoring in Chinese. After graduating, he taught at several schools in Zhejiang.

Thanks to his excellent achievements in Chinese, in 1980, the teacher was invited to participate in compiling the "Chinese Dictionary". In 1999, he retired after nearly 40 years of teaching. Retiring at the age of 61, he received a monthly salary of 5,600 NDT (19.2 million VND). With this amount of money, he could live freely and comfortably each month, without depending on his children.

One day, by chance, he read an article about children in the mountainous areas who were poor and could not afford to pay school fees. The more he read, the heavier his heart became. More than anyone else, he knew clearly that poverty gave children a thirst for knowledge and to rise up in life.

After careful consideration, Mr. Hao made an unexpected decision. He donated his entire retirement fund to help children in disadvantaged areas go to school. In addition, to earn more money, he also collected trash and scraps of fabric and sold them to scrap recycling stations.

Mr. Hao maintained this job for 16 years after his retirement. Many times, he saw people's eyes of discrimination and alienation towards him. His only pleasure during this time was sitting in the Hangzhou Library reading books.

Time passed, on November 18, 2015, Hangzhou was cloudy and raining continuously. As usual, he was wearing old clothes, holding a broken umbrella in one hand and a bamboo pole and a garbage bag in the other. Despite the wind and rain, he still tried to pick up trash in the hope of finding something.

At 10pm, he was crossing an intersection and saw the green light so he quickly rushed to the opposite side. Unfortunately, an accident happened, a speeding taxi crashed straight into him. He was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, but he died after 20 days due to multiple organ failure.

The incident made his children even angrier with their father. Accordingly, Mr. Hao's three daughters advised him to stay home and enjoy his old age. However, no matter what, he still went out to pick up trash at night.

After packing up his belongings, his three daughters realized that they had misunderstood their father for many years. He spent the entire 16 years of his retirement collecting trash to raise money to help poor children study. Although he has left this world, his work and dedication are still remembered by people.
