The 2025 Global Teacher Prize has been awarded to a Saudi Arabian teacher for his tireless contributions to education.

Teachers love teaching life skills

This award is organized by the Varkey Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO to honor teachers who have made outstanding contributions to education and the community.

That is teacher Mansour al-Mansour from Saudi Arabia. According to AP News , in addition to being a teacher at Prince Saud bin Jalawi School in al-Ahsa province, teacher al-Mansour is also known for his charity projects and social activities that have a great impact on the community.

One of this teacher's most important initiatives is a life skills program, which helps students develop communication skills, financial awareness and critical thinking - essential skills that are often neglected in traditional curriculums.

The program has expanded, implementing large projects on financial awareness for poor students, poor people understanding business. Some students later even opened their own stores.

The program continues to be expanded by the teacher to… prisoners. Literacy classes and financial and communication skills development have been conducted by him and volunteers in many prisons across the country.

This initiative has helped many prisoners reintegrate into society, reducing recidivism rates and providing them with new opportunities after release. In this way, the teacher not only helps them access education but also reduces the risk of recidivism, contributing to building a more humane society.

According to the official website of the Global Teacher Prize, al-Mansour's teaching philosophy revolves around developing life skills, happiness and sustainability.

He tailors his approach to meet the individual needs of each student, actively engages families in the learning process, and integrates modern teaching models aligned with the United Nations sustainable development goals.

Make a maintenance program… for air conditioners

In eastern Saudi Arabia, where summer temperatures can reach 50 degrees Celsius, al-Mansour has launched a free air conditioning maintenance program for low-income families.

The project, which helps hundreds of households cope with extreme weather conditions, has also expanded into a campaign to raise awareness about energy saving and maintenance of household electrical appliances.

In addition to air conditioner maintenance, he also coordinates with experts to guide people on how to optimize electricity usage, helping to reduce living costs in the context of increasingly high energy prices.

The initiative has contributed to improving the quality of life for many people, especially families with young children and the elderly, while creating a sustainable model of community support in harsh climate conditions.

"He was not only a teacher, but also a father, a big brother to the community," one of his students told AP News .

With the $1 million prize money from the Global Teacher Prize, al-Mansour plans to build a school for orphans in his hometown. He hopes the school will ensure the children have the best environment to develop, increasing their chances of changing their lives through knowledge.

"Education is not just about imparting knowledge, but also about creating real change in the lives of students and the community," said teacher al-Mansour when receiving the award.

Established in 2014, the Global Teacher Prize is one of the most prestigious awards in education, attracting thousands of applicants from around the world each year.

The aim of the award is not only to recognise outstanding individuals but also to inspire and promote innovation in global education.

TTO - In recent days, public opinion in the country has been concerned and worried about the admission scores for the education sector continuing to "hit rock bottom". In countries with developed education systems, such as Singapore, how are education students recruited?
