Tourism contributes to the formation of many OCOP products. Since 2015, with tourism identified as a key economic sector, Dong Thap province has begun to promote many solutions to develop the "smokeless industry", focusing on exploiting local potential in eco-tourism, community tourism, agricultural tourism and cultural-spiritual tourism, associated with building local images. Implementing the province's policy, in Thap Muoi district, over the past decades, Party committees, authorities, and people have joined hands to implement many new solutions and approaches. Up to now, Thap Muoi tourism industry has achieved many valuable achievements. In 2024, Thap Muoi attracted 2,871,470 visitors, with revenue of about 218,071 million VND. Accumulated from 2021 to present, Thap Muoi has welcomed 6.1 million visitors; total revenue of nearly 615 billion VND. Linking tourism with the OCOP program has brought great efficiency, not only creating opportunities for local agricultural products and specialties to be widely promoted but also creating jobs and increasing income for people. We always encourage households to participate in the OCOP program and develop tourism while building high-quality products, as a foundation for sustainable development of the locality". In recent years, thanks to exploiting tourism associated with developing eco-tourism and agricultural tourism, Thap Muoi district has discovered, exploited and supported the development of local specialties and characteristics into OCOP products. Lotus is one of the typical products. Of the 46 OCOP products of the whole district, there are 23 products from lotus raw materials in Thap Muoi, including: fresh lotus seeds, lotus roots, butter-dried lotus, lotus teas, lotus milk, canned lotus essence drinks, etc. According to information from the subjects, there are currently dozens of OCOP products exported to markets such as: Europe, Korea, Japan, Taiwan (China), etc. Of which, there are 2 rice products, the rest are lotus products. Mr. Truong Van Chinh, Director of Chon Chinh Import Export Company Limited, said: "Previously, Chon Chinh DT 8 rice and Chon Chinh ST25 rice were only consumed in the area, but since combining with eco-tourism tours, our products have had the opportunity to be widely introduced to domestic and foreign tourists. Tourists participating in the tours not only enjoy dishes made from fragrant rice but also buy products as souvenirs. Thanks to that, Thap Muoi rice products have had many new consumption markets and we have also learned a lot of experience in improving product quality". Building OCOP products into tourism "ambassadors" Thap Muoi District is one of the localities implementing the One Commune One Product program with good results, currently ranking in the top 4 out of 12 districts and cities in the province. To achieve the above results, in addition to receiving support from the province, consensus from local levels and sectors, the OCOP program also received the attention and active participation of organizations and individuals operating in production and business in the district. To achieve this goal, while promoting the potential of local products and specialties, which are now enhanced in value through OCOP standard certification, such as rice, lotus products, etc., the Thap Muoi functional sector is currently working with other entities to focus on exploiting the role of tourism "ambassadors", so that each OCOP product is a story. And this story not only helps the product become vivid and unique, but also creates an emotional connection, helping visitors feel attached and interested in the product as well as the local cultural and historical values. In addition, Thap Muoi will continue to implement a number of other important solutions such as: strengthening propaganda, training, and fostering human resources in the field of tourism and OCOP product production; continuing to improve the quality of OCOP products; strongly developing communication channels, promoting Thap Muoi tourism and OCOP products, especially through online platforms and social networks to reach a wider range of customers. Obviously, building OCOP products into tourism “ambassadors” in particular, and linking OCOP products with tourism development is a valuable direction, creating economic development space for rural areas; is a factor that creates attraction, inspires, and attracts tourists.
