Untangling the Green Transition Knot to Create Value in Sustainable Development

Focus on sustainable development

According to Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Chairman of VCCI, the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry and the Business Council for Sustainable Development hope that the forum will be an opportunity for the business community to continue to join hands to affirm their belief and efforts in the process of realizing the goal of bringing net emissions to "0" by 2050.

"That belief is being built up and from there creating strong impulses for synchronous transformation: transformation in perception; transformation in thinking and transformation in action," said Mr. Cong.

Mr. Binu Jacob, General Director of Nestlé Vietnam, co-chair of VBCSD, expressed that the impact of climate change is very clear and sustainable development is the key to contributing to limiting, mitigating and adapting to climate change.

Regarding the key points in the green transformation process of enterprises as well as how to turn sustainability into a driving force for value creation, Mr. Binu Jacob stated that sustainability and profit are not two sides of a coin, but two sides of a calculation with equal results. Therefore, if one side is missing, we cannot have the other side.

Remove bottlenecks

“One of the bottlenecks in the transformation is connecting the sustainability story to the core drivers of consumers’ brand choice decisions.

Businesses need to change their approach and connect with consumers based on understanding customers through their behaviors, needs, and preferences, so that sustainable initiatives can truly become a driving force for value creation," said Mr. Binu Jacob.

Sharing human resource development strategies with knowledge and expertise related to sustainable development issues, Mr. Khuat Quang Hung, Director of External Affairs and Communications, Nestlé Vietnam Company, introduced the Green Ambassador program.

This is an initiative of Nestlé Vietnam to build a core team of employees in awareness raising activities and internal communication campaigns to spread green lifestyle in the company.

To become a pioneer in the field of sustainable development, Mr. Hung said that Nestlé always emphasizes the central role of people and the issue of changing thinking in approaching sustainability issues.

Not only does it come from the responsibility of the business leader in setting out specific strategies, goals and roadmaps, businesses need to implement synchronously in all departments to work together to achieve the set ESG goals.

"The most important thing is to turn investment in sustainable activities into a driving force that brings value not only to the environment and community but also benefits the business," Mr. Hung emphasized.

Mr. Khuat Quang Hung, Director of External Affairs and Communications, Nestlé Vietnam, shared about the role of people in sustainable development and green transformation.

Held annually since 2014, the Vietnam Business Forum for Sustainable Development (VCSF) is the most important event of the year to promote dialogue on sustainable business development between the business community and the Vietnamese Government of VCCI in general and VBCSD in particular.

As an enterprise voted by VCCI and VBCSD as the most sustainable enterprise in the manufacturing sector for many years, Nestlé Vietnam is always a pioneer in sharing and spreading good practices in this field, to promote sustainable development in Vietnam as well as realize Vietnam's Net Zero commitment by 2050.
