After 10 years of being led by singer-songwriter Thanh Bui, DUYBI (real name Tran Ngoc Duy, runner-up of "The Voice Kids" 2013 in Thanh Bui's team) has appeared with the album "Lo2e doc" (Love document) consisting of 5 songs composed and performed by him.
Overcoming the old glory
Whether to completely change or maintain the old glory is a problem that has no absolute answer for every case. However, the efforts of child stars are undeniable.
As mentioned above, with "Lo2e doc", DUYBI's songs express the young man's feelings about the vibrations of adolescence, with sobs and nostalgia. Commenting on DUYBI's music, musician Thanh Bui - the teacher who has guided and mentored him for the past 10 years - compared: "Duy's voice is as sweet as plum wine, as rich as fermented mung bean cake".
The most successful in the journey of "transforming" from the child star image must be Phuong My Chi, through the product "Vu co bay stork". The small girl who used to sing lyrical folk songs imbued with national spirit with a clear voice, has now grown up and built her own universe - "Vu co bay stork".

Still with a bright and sweet voice, Phuong My Chi has transformed brilliantly with new images, new sounds with colors that bear her personal mark. Musician Nguyen Ngoc Thien commented: "Phuong My Chi has been "incubated" in the image of a folk child star. But now, she has made a big step forward in her musical thinking and orientation."
If you have ever heard of Quang Anh - the champion of "The Voice Kids" 2013, the audience will be somewhat surprised by the development of this singer. Quang Anh currently uses the stage name RHYDER. Regarding his musical direction, he said he pursues pop ballad, hip hop and R&B.
Quang Anh's product "After the rain" has a pop R'n'B color - a recent trend of Vietnamese music, receiving positive effects from the audience. RHYDER's way of exploiting sadness but not too tragic in "After the rain" received many compliments when bringing a source of "healing" energy for listeners to enjoy.
Multi-purpose model
As they grow older, the content of the child stars’ music becomes more and more different. If in the past, young talents often sang folk songs, expressing their love for family, homeland, and country, now, most of them tell love stories from personal experiences or collected from life. This change is a necessary and sufficient condition for a young singer to continue to make his name on the Vietnamese music scene.
"Safety" is an obstacle to the development of a singer, even when the young talent once enjoyed a large fan base. A typical example is the case of singer Ho Van Cuong. The young singer still regularly performs, but because he cannot escape the old imprints and does not seek a different path from before, Ho Van Cuong has become increasingly "quiet" on the Vietnamese music scene...
Returning to "Lo2e doc", this album is like a sweet and safe greeting that DUYBI sends to V-pop fans. Overall, despite being refined and polished, this album still lacks the breakthrough needed for a Gen Z rookie. Standing in the "multi-colored forest" of an open and individualistic generation, DUYBI needs to create its own "signature" in music for the audience to find and remember.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Thien Nhan - the champion of "The Voice Kids" 2014 - still chooses popular traditional and folk culture materials. Returning after a 2-year hiatus, she chose a direction that suits her voice, without having to change too much in her singing style, but is quite "inferior" compared to what other singers have gained from this path. Thien Nhan said she will do many tests and gradually adjust to find the most suitable direction.
Phuong My Chi is considered by many in the profession to be a typical face in her generation of singers. However, according to this female singer, conquering the audience has never been easy. To ensure a long-term career, in addition to honing her singing voice, she also studies and practices composing.
According to Phuong My Chi, this is necessary when the music industry is aiming for a multi-talented model. Being proactive in composing and participating in production also helps her easily express her emotions and thoughts. Phuong My Chi believes that "if you haven't tried, how do you know you can't do it" and the results from the album "Vu tru co bay" are proof.
Music audiences are getting younger and younger, so their impact on the Vietnamese music market is also changing rapidly and differently. Therefore, singers who used to be child stars all have the same pressure to conquer new audiences every day.
