Vascular occlusion due to filler injection for nose beautification

Hanoi One hour after injecting filler to beautify the nose and cheeks, a 37-year-old woman suffered from a blood clot complication and had to be hospitalized for treatment.

The patient received filler injections at a spa owned by an acquaintance. One hour later, she experienced pain at the injection site along with signs of malnutrition around the wings, bridge of the nose, and around the left side of her mouth and part of her forehead. The patient was then injected with a dissolving agent at the spa, but her condition did not improve and blisters appeared around the injection site.

Arriving at the Central Dermatology Hospital on April 16, after 4 days of the procedure, the patient was diagnosed with thrombosis complications after Liller injection due to incorrect injection technique by an unprofessional person. MSc. Dr. Ta Thi Ha Phuong, Department of Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation, said the patient was treated with antibiotics, on-site care and psychological support, but could still experience later complications.

Filler is a cosmetic medical method recognized by the world, helping to fill in facial defects such as sunken eyes, sunken tears, sunken temples, short chin, receding chin... to make the face fuller and rounder. In addition, this method helps women in aging to treat wrinkled facial skin, making the skin smooth and shiny.

However, not all beauty facilities ensure quality and safety. The Central Dermatology Hospital continuously receives cases of complications after Liller injections from "underground" facilities with untrained technicians, or even without medical knowledge.

Dr. Ha Phuong said that filler injection is a non-surgical cosmetic method, easily performed at the clinic, without anesthesia or sedation, and is considered safe for the body. However, this is only true when performed at specialized and reputable medical facilities. Complications from filler injection can be divided into two main groups: related to the injection technique and the use of unlicensed fillers. Of which, the most serious complication from the injection technique that can be encountered is injection into the blood vessels.

When getting beauty treatments, people need to choose reputable facilities with expertise that have been assessed by competent authorities, and use injectable drugs with clear origins to avoid complications.
