Brazil striker Luis Suarez helped Gremio come from behind to win 4-3 on the field of Botafogo, the team leading the Brazilian championship, on the evening of November 9.
In the 50th minute, when the score was 3-1 in favor of Botafogo, Suarez reduced it to 2-3. After passing the ball past the home defender, the former Barca star shot into the near corner, while the Botafogo goalkeeper tried to catch the ball in the far corner.
Just three minutes later, Suarez equalized for Gremio. After a cross from his teammate on the left wing, the 36-year-old striker fired a one-touch cross into the Botafogo net. In the 69th minute, Suarez completed his hat-trick and sealed a 4-3 victory. This time, he passed through the middle with his teammate to get past five home players, before shooting the ball off the goalkeeper's hand and into the goal.

Before that, the victory seemed to be in Botafogo's hands, when they continuously scored to take the lead thanks to Diego Costa, Junior Santos and Marlon Freitas. In between the first two goals of the home team was Everton Galdino's equalizer for Gremio in the 9th minute. Diego Costa was Suarez's former teammate at Atletico Madrid in the 2020-2021 season, and is a striker who won the Premier League twice with Chelsea.
This season, Suarez has scored 14 goals in 28 matches in the Brazilian championship. If counting in all competitions, he has 26 goals in 49 matches.
This victory helped Gremio climb to second place in the Brazilian championship with 59 points after 32 matches, only behind Botafogo on goal difference but having played one more match. The Brazilian championship consists of 20 teams and takes place over 38 rounds.
Botafogo 3-4 Gremio match progress.
Suarez joined Gremio in December 2022 as a free transfer after his contract with Nacional (Uruguay) expired. His contract with the Brazilian team was for two years, but according to the media, the two sides reached an agreement to terminate the contract in December. After that, the 36-year-old striker could go to Inter Miami, USA to reunite with his former teammate Lionel Messi.
While playing for Barca, Suarez scored 198 goals in 283 games. He also scored 82 goals in 133 games for Liverpool, 111 goals in 159 games for Ajax, 34 goals in 83 games for Atletico Madrid, 20 goals in 51 games for Nacional and 68 goals in 137 games for Uruguay.
