Chance meeting
Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Cyro Watari (Brazilian nationality) confirmed that there was a meeting between him and Mr. Ho Viet in Kon Tum that took place on February 7, which is January 10.
"The online community is a bit confused. I didn't know Mr. Ho Viet before through social media and then flew to Vietnam to meet him.
During my journey across Vietnam, I rented a room at a homestay in Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak). The owner saw that I looked very similar to Mr. Ho Viet, so he wanted to connect us so that we could meet. After seeing the pictures on social media, I realized that our faces were quite similar, so I decided to meet. In life, not everyone has such unexpected fate," Mr. Cyro informed.
It is known that 4 days before the meeting, the two men who had never met had their first conversation via video.
At 11am on February 7, Mr. Cyro parked his motorbike in front of Mr. Ho Viet's homestay in Kon Tum. The owner ran out, shook hands and said, "Hello Cyro." The two strangers hugged each other like old friends who hadn't seen each other for a long time.
After a friendly handshake, the male tourist from Brazil was surprised because his facial features, beard and skin were similar to Mr. Ho Viet's.
During Mr. Cyro's stay in Kon Tum, the two friends talked a lot about life in each country and learned about unique cultural features.
"Through conversations using translation tools, we learned that we also have similar interests such as: passion for art, love to explore culture; nature and cuisine; drinking coffee; learning about motorbikes, driving off-road vehicles and playing adventure sports...", Mr. Cyro said.
The male tourist arrived at the exact time when the homestay owner's family in Kon Tum was holding a ceremony to worship the God of Wealth. Mr. Ho Viet personally introduced his new acquaintance to this custom and the culture of celebrating the Lunar New Year of the Vietnamese people.
"It was a very interesting meeting, not everyone has it in their life. When he knew I had many similarities, Mr. Cyro was determined to meet me, perhaps thanks to a strange fate. After talking, we both realized that we had many similar interests and passions," Mr. Ho Viet shared.
Sell house, property and travel
After leaving Kon Tum, Mr. Cyro continued his 2-month journey across Vietnam. The male tourist is exploring Hoi An (Quang Nam), then will travel along the central provinces, to the North to the Vietnam-China border and end the trip in Hanoi.
Before coming to Vietnam, the Brazilian man explored Japan, Thailand and Laos...
Ho Chi Minh City was Mr. Cyro's first stop in Vietnam. He rented a motorbike and traveled along the coastal roads of the South Central region, then went to the Central Highlands...

"My passion for travel started when I was 10 years old, after seeing travel trips published in a magazine in 1976. After I turned 18, I spent more time traveling," he shared.
It is known that this man has gone through 2 broken marriages. 2 years ago, he decided to sell all his houses, land, assets, cars, motorbikes... to choose a simple lifestyle and explore the world.
At the age of nearly 60, Mr. Cyro does not like resort travel but chooses trips to learn about the culture and life of people in different countries.
Talking about his recent time exploring Vietnam, the male tourist was impressed by the friendliness, joy and hospitality of the people here. The diverse natural landscape has beaches, mountains, rivers, forests... similar to Mr. Cyro's homeland Brazil.
"The roads in Vietnam are very beautiful, the food is delicious... My favorites are pho and banh mi... Last Tet, I celebrated the Lunar New Year in Nha Trang, the atmosphere was very jubilant and bustling. Thanks to this trip, I understood the Vietnamese New Year customs," he said.
Compared to Japan, Thailand and Laos, Mr. Cyro found that Vietnam has the cheapest cost of living. Each day, the male tourist spends nearly 1 million VND. Specifically, he spends 250,000 - 350,000 VND to rent a place to stay, 400,000 VND for 3 meals, 120,000 VND for motorbike rental and 60,000 VND for gas.
However, after spending more than 20 days in Vietnam, Mr. Cyro expressed his concerns about traffic awareness and waste issues.
Mr. Cyro said he has no plans to return to Brazil but will continue to travel to countries around the world (Photo: Character provided).
"I find my home and workplace extremely clean. However, public places, roads, beaches, and rivers are all littered with garbage," he confided.
After finishing his trip to explore Vietnam, the Brazilian man plans to visit the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Nepal, Europe, Africa...
He revealed that he has no plans yet on when he will return to Brazil, and will travel until he is healthy enough.
"I have conquered the five greatest assets of human beings: Health, time, freedom, money and personality. I use all of these to turn them into experiences and happy moments," said the male tourist.
