Song Ma takes care of main season longan

Nearly 7 thousand hectares of longan in Song Ma district are blooming and bearing fruit. This is also the period that determines the yield and quality of the fruit of this crop, which is considered the main crop in this locality. Currently, households as well as cooperatives are focusing on implementing measures to care for and prevent pests and diseases for longan with the hope that the upcoming main crop of longan will yield high yields and output.

Hung Loc Agricultural Service Cooperative currently has 68 hectares of fruit trees, of which 46 hectares of longan are planted and cared for by cooperative members according to organic and VietGAP standards; every year the cooperative harvests from 500 to 600 tons of fresh longan... From the effectiveness of 3 hectares of golden longan that were harvested previously, this year the cooperative is grafting another 5 hectares of golden longan to expand the area, creating a raw material area to supply golden longan products to serve domestic processing and export needs.

Mr. Tran Van Loc - Director of Hung Loc Cooperative, Chieng Khuong, Song Ma, Son La: The golden light longan has the advantage of stronger plant resistance compared to early ripening longan and Mien Thiet longan. The golden light longan has strong genes, its quality is higher, has high sugar content, and is more delicious.

To produce high yield of longan trees, the care process is very important. Gardeners have applied the method of ringing the bark and cutting branches to differentiate flower buds, bloom and bear fruit as desired. Then water thoroughly before the tree flowers, at the same time limiting the phenomenon of young fruit falling later.

Ms. Bui Thi Dung - Ban Quyet Thang, Chieng Khuong, Song Ma, Son La: The family is taking care of longan trees with a sprinkler irrigation model, the soil is sloping, not waterlogged so it is very suitable. Currently, the family is taking care of the longan trees by pruning the fruit branches, pruning the branches without fruit, so that the fruit clusters can develop more.

Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Director of the Agricultural Service Center of Song Ma District, Son La: Right from the beginning of the year, before the main crop, the Agricultural Service Center coordinated with specialized agencies of the People's Committees of communes and cooperatives to guide people to produce according to VIETGAP and globalGAP. Up to now, the longan is blooming, the Center has come down to directly guide cooperatives and people, mainly focusing on care and fertilization to help the longan trees grow and achieve better productivity.

Song Ma district currently has 7,670 hectares of longan, of which more than 900 hectares are spread-out longan, the rest are main-season longan. For the plants to grow and develop, the district strictly manages safe agricultural production processes (VietGAP, Global gap, ...). The district strives to export 6,500 tons of longan fruit to markets in China, the US, Australia, the EU, the UK, etc. by 2025.
