Today, October 26, at Hanoi University, an international conference with the theme "Research - Teaching Japanese Language and Japan Studies: World Trends and Practices in Vietnam" took place. The conference was attended by many domestic and international scientists, including many experts, scientists, lecturers, and researchers from Japanese universities such as Osaka University, Nara Women's University, Meiji University, JigyouSojo Graduate School, Ochannomizu University, etc.
Scholars chaired the discussion during the plenary session of the conference.
The workshop lasted all day. After the opening session, thematic sessions were held in parallel. At the thematic sessions, the current situation of teaching Japanese in Vietnam was one of the main topics.
According to experts, teaching and learning Japanese in Vietnam is currently quite favorable, because Vietnam is considered a place with a "lively" Japanese learning environment.
According to a recent survey on Japanese language education institutions abroad by the Japan Foundation, the number of Japanese language learners in Vietnam is 169,582, ranking sixth in the world. Regarding the number of Vietnamese currently studying in Japan, the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) reported that the survey results for 2022 were 37,405, second only to China.
Students of Japanese Language Faculty, Hanoi University attended the workshop
This year, Vietnam and Japan are organizing a series of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and promote exchange and cooperation activities in economics, politics, culture and society. Experts believe that, with this context, it can be expected that the majority of Vietnamese students will have the opportunity to study and work with Japanese people in the present and the future.
According to Dr. Luong Ngoc Minh, Vice President of Hanoi University, the organizing committee hopes that the conference will be a place to create networking not only among scholars, but also create opportunities for connections between training institutions and businesses, contributing to bringing the research and teaching of Japanese language and Japanese studies to a new level.
It is known that Hanoi University (formerly known as the University of Foreign Languages) is the oldest Japanese language training institution among universities in Vietnam. The school has taught Japanese since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan (50 years ago). The school established the Japanese Language Department 30 years ago.
