Exciting Champions League
Liverpool let PSG level the score 1-1 after 2 legs of the Champions League round of 16, when striker Ousmane Dembele scored the opening goal 1-0 in the second leg at Anfield in the 12th minute. In the first leg, Liverpool won 1-0 thanks to Harvey Elliott's last-minute goal in the 87th minute.
Salah disappointed and cried when Liverpool was eliminated from Champions League
This score helped PSG to boost their spirits and create an overwhelming game. Liverpool only played well in the second half, although striker Salah had a chance to score a turning point but failed. Similarly, center back Jarell Quansah had a chance with the ball hitting the post and the crossbar twice and going out.
Having missed many chances, Liverpool had to enter extra time with PSG. Here, the French team played better. However, there were still no more goals scored.
The two teams therefore had to enter a penalty shootout to determine the winner. At the 11m mark, Salah was the only one to successfully shoot for Liverpool, while Nunez and Curtis Jones missed and were saved by goalkeeper Gigio Donnarumma (PSG). On PSG's side, all four shots by Vitinha, Goncalo Ramos, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue were successful, helping the Paris team win 4-1 and win a spectacular ticket to the quarter-finals.
According to coach Arne Slot (Liverpool): "In more than 90 minutes of official match time, I don't think we deserved to lose. In more than 180 minutes, going into extra time was fair. In extra time, PSG played better. The penalty shootout was completely a matter of luck."
Lamine Yamal and Barcelona fly high
After the match, striker Salah burst into tears at Anfield because Liverpool were eliminated. This could be the last time this Egyptian striker plays for the Anfield team in the Champions League, because his contract is about to expire at the end of the season and he has no intention of renewing it.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old striker Lamine Yamal shined, scoring 1 goal and senior Raphinha scored a double to help Barcelona defeat Benfica 3-1 (4-1 on aggregate) to successfully qualify for the quarter-finals.
There were few surprises in the other results as Inter Milan beat Feyenoord 2-1 (4-1 on aggregate) and Bayern Munich beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 (5-0 on aggregate) to secure their places in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The first Champions League quarter-final tie has been confirmed between Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. While PSG and Barcelona will wait for their opponents to play after March 13.
