HOW STRONG IS THE UNIVERSITY OF MALAYSIA TEAM?
In the first time the International TNSV - THACO Cup was held, the Malaysian University team brought a very strong squad, with players studying at universities in Malaysia. Notably, most of the players in the team are competing in Amateur M3, a semi-professional tournament organized by Amateur football PLT in Malaysia; from 2 clubs UiTM United and MUFT. This is a league-style tournament, with home and away matches and 16 teams participating.
Malaysian University team players get to play football regularly.
That means the players in the Malaysia University team are able to compete in 30 matches in a season. If they are allowed to go on training sessions, play friendly matches, etc., this number is much larger. Therefore, the fighting spirit of the Malaysia University team is truly formidable. Not stopping there, the person chosen as the head coach of this team is Mr. Mohd Yazli Yahya, the captain of UiTM United Club. And UiTM United Club is also a famous team in the semi-professional arena, with 13 major and minor titles. Their official social networking site has more than 26,000 followers, operating professionally.
The teachers and students of the Malaysian University team are ready.
The players of the Malaysian University team have a strong physical foundation, ready to cope with the heat in Ho Chi Minh City. The team's leaders even suggested that each match last 90 minutes, instead of 80 minutes as it is now.
According to coach Yahya, the quality of the players of the Malaysian University team is quite similar. However, they still have star players who can explode to make a difference at decisive moments. That is midfielder Zirky Bin Mohd Hafis, who used to play for the Selangor U.23 team. And Selangor is one of the top teams in Malaysia, currently ranked 2nd in the national championship of this country. Besides, the captain, attacking midfielder Haziq Ubaidillah is also highly appreciated.
AMBITION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MALAYSIA TEAM
With such an impressive CV, the Malaysian University team is considered a candidate for the 2025 International Student Championship - THACO Cup. However, the vision of this team is much further than that. Coach Yahya shared with Thanh Nien : "This team was established to prepare for the Malaysian University team to participate in the Asian University Games in 2026. Malaysia is also the host country of that tournament."
The solid physique of the Malaysian student player
Coach Yahya said this is the first time many players have played in a quality student tournament. He will give many players in the squad a chance to evaluate the quality of the personnel, check the harmony, and the ability to connect between old and new players.
Through this statement, we can see that the Malaysian University team will likely rotate the squad continuously at the 2025 International Youth Football Tournament - THACO Cup. For many teams, this is not a simple matter. However, with the uniformity in the squad and the very good quality of the players, the Malaysian University team not only does not encounter difficulties but can also play more dynamically and explosively. Especially in short-term tournaments, often having to compete on artificial turf, rotating the squad is really important.
Any student player would like to have the honor of attending the Asian Student Congress in 2026. Therefore, all players in the Malaysian University team will definitely "burn" themselves out to be able to catch the "green eye" of the head coach.
The Malaysian University team is strong, but not without challenges. Since the players mainly play on natural grass, they may not be at their best when playing on Ton Duc Thang University’s artificial turf. The ball rolling on artificial turf often goes bumpy, which is not favorable for teams that prefer small, smooth and fast coordination like the Malaysian University team.
