Specifically, former Prime Minister Johnson told the Daily Mail that Mr. Trump's return to the White House could be "what the world needs." The content of his speech was published on January 19.
Mr Johnson argued that if Mr Trump backed Ukraine in its fight with Russia, his new leadership “could be a huge win for the world”.
“I simply cannot believe that Mr. Trump would abandon Ukraine. On the contrary, because he has certainly calculated that there will be no deal with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, I think it is very likely that he will redouble his efforts and finish what he started, by giving them what they need to win,” Mr. Johnson said.

“If that is the case, then under Trump there is every chance that the West will be stronger and the world will be more stable,” he added.
However, Mr Trump has repeatedly cast doubt on his continued support for Kyiv if he is re-elected president. He also boasts of his personal relationship with Mr Putin.
On January 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky invited Mr. Trump to visit Kyiv. Previously, the former US President had said that he could resolve the conflict in just 24 hours. "If you can end the war in 24 hours, I think you just need to come to Kyiv, any day I will be here," The Guardian reported.

What the world needs now, Mr Johnson said, is an “unpredictable” US leader who can act as a major deterrent to Western rivals. He also said Mr Trump was interested in “a proper free trade deal” with the UK, after hopes of a comprehensive trade deal were abandoned last year.
