Norwegian Parliament Speaker Masud Gharakhani warmly welcomed Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on their official visit to the Kingdom of Norway and believed that the Vice President's visit would contribute to expanding and deepening the traditional friendship and cooperation that are developing well between the two countries.
The Speaker of the Norwegian Parliament was impressed by Vietnam's achievements in national development as well as Vietnam's active participation in addressing global challenges, especially climate change with a commitment to reduce net emissions to "zero" by 2050. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan also expressed her delight at her first official visit to the Kingdom of Norway in the context of positive developments in the cooperative relationship between the two countries.
The Vice President congratulated the important efforts of the Government, Parliament and people of Norway to make the country one of the most livable countries in the world and have an important voice in the international arena.
At the meeting, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan informed National Assembly Chairman Masud Gharakhani about the substantive results achieved by the two sides through the talks between the Vice President and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and the meeting with Crown Prince Haakon Magnus, thereby providing a number of orientations to enhance the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation.
The Vice President proposed that the Norwegian Parliament support the establishment of legal frameworks to facilitate bilateral cooperation in areas of strength and need of the two countries such as green transformation, climate change, and circular economy.
The Vice President also hopes that Norway will promote the early signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the EFTA bloc, support Vietnam with financial resources, experience in institution building, and human resource training to realize international commitments, including those at the COP26 Conference and within the framework of JETP.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan thanked Norway for providing Vietnam with effective development assistance, helping Vietnam successfully implement the Millennium Development Goals, and hoped that the two sides would continue to cooperate in areas such as fisheries, climate change, and support for people in remote areas.
Pleased with the substantive and effective results achieved at the talks and meetings with Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, the Chairwoman of the Norwegian Parliament agreed that the two sides need to strengthen cooperation to take advantage of existing potential and strengths, in which the Norwegian Parliament supports cooperation on green transformation and facilitates Norwegian businesses to cooperate with Vietnamese partners.
The two sides also agreed to pay more attention to cooperation in the fields of culture, education and training, science and technology, and gender equality. Emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two National Assemblies in the overall bilateral relationship, the two sides supported the enhancement of delegation exchanges between the two National Assemblies, sharing experiences in policy and law making, and addressing challenges in the socio-economic development of each country.
On this occasion, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan conveyed the invitation of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to the Norwegian Parliament Chairman to visit Vietnam.
