
On December 28, at the Presidential Palace, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan met and awarded the Labor Medal to students who won prizes at the 2024 International Science and Technology Olympiad.
Here, the Vice President awarded the Labor Medal to 20 students; Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son awarded the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to 6 students.
Praising and congratulating the outstanding achievements of the Education and Training sector, teachers and students in 2024, the Vice President emphasized that studiousness is a very fine tradition of the nation, nurtured from generation to generation, thereby contributing to the formation of a thousand-year-old civilized Vietnam, which is very proud today. In each revolutionary period, our Party and State have always paid attention to the development of the Education and Training sector; perfecting institutions, guidelines and policies to build the country's human resources.
After 40 years of implementing the renovation process with the country's common achievements, the Education and Training sector has also achieved many important results, gradually approaching the achievements and progress in education and training of advanced countries in the world. By 2024, Vietnam will have 17 higher education institutions in the QS Asia University Rankings 2025; two Vietnamese National Universities are in the top 1,000 universities in the world.
This is a very proud achievement as well as demonstrating the great efforts of the Party, the State, especially the Education sector, over the past time. In that general achievement, in international arenas, the achievements of the Vietnamese delegation are getting higher and higher, each year is higher than the previous year; almost every contestant has won a prize.
Emphasizing the outstanding results achieved at the 2024 International Science and Technology Olympiad, the Vice President stated that the results achieved demonstrate the continuous efforts of students, the efforts and dedication of teachers as well as the care and concern of parents and families for their children. It is also the support of organizations and individuals in society; the correct orientations, methods of selection, training, and organization of competitions for students by the Education sector are increasingly effective, closer to practical requirements.
The results achieved are not only the crystallization of the Vietnamese people's tradition of studiousness but also a very important foundation for building a high-quality human resource team, realizing the policies of the Party and State in the coming time.
Outlining the global, regional and domestic context, the Vice President stated that in order to adapt to the general trend as well as realize the country's development aspirations, the Party and State have issued many very important policies and decisions, thus placing high expectations on the education and training sector and the young generations.
The Vice President requested the education and training sector to continue to have specific, practical plans, roadmaps and solutions to implement the general policies of the Party and the State, including Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation. At the same time, the whole sector continues to carry out the cause of comprehensive fundamental innovation in education and training, close to reality, suitable to the needs of national development and keeping up with the trend of the times.
Expressing his emotions when listening to the sharing of young talents, the Vice President hoped that, first of all, each future owner of the country would be a good citizen, a pioneer in studying, and study effectively. They would continue to be confident, have plans to conquer knowledge and science, set future goals to make positive contributions to the country and society; thereby having the motivation to strive, and more effective learning and training methods.
The Vice President hopes that each teacher will continue to keep the fire burning, pass it on to generations of students; nurture in them a passion for learning, scientific research, and conquering the peak. At the same time, teachers actively update and innovate teaching content and methods to not only train students to achieve high scores but also become people with the capacity and qualities of an excellent citizen.
Accepting the Vice President's instructions, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that the education and training sector is committed to continuing its efforts to comprehensively innovate and effectively implement the Party and State's policies to improve the quality of education. The education and training sector will create all conditions for students to study and research in the best environment, to develop comprehensively to become global citizens, contributing to the sustainable development of the country.
In 2024, Vietnam had 8 delegations participating in international and regional Olympic competitions, with a total of 38 students participating; winning 12 Gold Medals, 15 Silver Medals, 10 Bronze Medals and 1 Certificate of Merit. Compared to 2023, the number of Gold Medals increased by 4, Silver Medals increased by 3, affirming the strong rise in the quality of key education.
2024 marks the first time the Vietnamese delegation won second prize at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) held in the US, affirming the potential for the development of creative education in the field of science and technology.
