"A thoughtful, three-hour epic with a carefully calculated rhythm, Vietnamese writer-director Pham Thien An's debut is a mesmerizing tale of the soul's unseen yearning for the afterlife. The story itself is almost a transcendence of life," IndieWire wrote.

Screen Daily (UK) commented: "This haunting, hypnotic debut will appeal to film festivals and discerning audiences."
Screen Daily also gave endless praise to the harmonious combination between director Pham Thien An and cameraman Dinh Duy Hung.
"The film has beautiful images of night forests, rushing waterfalls, wind-swept trees and silkworms in cages with bright yellow cocoons. There is also a wonderful sense of movement in the rhythmic panning.
There is a sense that the director has mastered his storytelling. The title appears after 30 minutes of the film, the mournful cello or tinkling guitar provide rare musical accompaniment, there are fade-outs and long blacks. All are carefully executed, underlining the director's confident delivery," said Allan Hunter of Screen Daily.
