Ba Be Lake area is identified as the key tourism development area of Bac Kan province.
According to the Tourism System Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2045 approved in Decision No. 509/QD-TTg dated June 13, 2024 of the Prime Minister, the Northern midland and mountainous region is oriented to develop tourism based on the strengths of natural landscapes, diverse ecosystems and cultural identities of ethnic groups. In particular, Bac Kan is identified as one of the key localities for developing ecotourism, resorts, community tourism and historical - cultural tourism.
In particular, Ba Be Lake Tourist Area is planned to become a National Tourist Area with typical tourism products closely linked to nature, indigenous culture and history. The plan also emphasizes the development of synchronous infrastructure and improving the quality of tourism services to attract domestic and foreign tourists.
The planning of Bac Kan province for the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 (approved in Decision No. 1288/QD-TTg dated November 3, 2023 of the Prime Minister) identifies tourism as an important economic sector, contributing greatly to the development of the province: "Developing sustainable tourism associated with heritage conservation, environmental protection and promoting indigenous cultural values; orienting key investment in resort and ecological tourism, combining health care, entertainment and professional sports; building diverse tourism products with the unique identity of Bac Kan, including eco-tourism, community tourism, adventure sports tourism, and tourism associated with OCOP products; developing key tourism clusters, including: Ba Be and vicinity tourism cluster, Bac Kan city tourism cluster, ATK Cho Don tourism cluster, Na Ri - Ngan Son tourism cluster...".
The provincial planning also aims to develop transport infrastructure connecting tourist destinations, facilitating tourist travel, while improving the quality of services, accommodation facilities and other tourism amenities.
In recent years, Bac Kan has implemented many plans, projects and investment projects to develop tourism in accordance with the orientation of the Planning. Key projects focus on developing tourism infrastructure, especially the transportation system connecting tourist areas and spots. Building high-class eco-tourism and resort areas associated with nature and indigenous culture. Attracting investment in community tourism, helping to improve the lives of local people and develop sustainable tourism... In addition, Bac Kan is also implementing the Inter-district Regional Planning to identify areas that are driving forces for tourism development. Accordingly, Ba Be district is identified as the key tourism development of the province, with the development orientation associated with tourist areas in the midland and mountainous regions of the North.
Despite its great potential, the development of tourism in Bac Kan still faces some difficulties. Among them, tourism infrastructure is not yet synchronized, transportation is still limited; lack of investment resources, especially capital for infrastructure construction and tourism promotion; regional connectivity is not really tight, there needs to be a clearer strategy in connecting tourism with neighboring provinces...
To solve these problems, Bac Kan province is mobilizing investment resources from many economic sectors, focusing on public-private cooperation; promoting tourism promotion and advertising, applying digital technology to improve tourist experience. Strengthening regional linkages, cooperating with localities in the Northern midland and mountainous region to develop inter-provincial tours and tourism routes...
With clear development orientations, in line with the general strategy of the Northern midland and mountainous region, while making the most of available potential and effectively attracting investment, Bac Kan is striving to become an attractive tourist destination, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the province as well as the whole region./.
