Artificial intelligence startup Perplexity AI is releasing a teaser trailer for its advertising service, saying its search app has been downloaded more than two million times and answers more than 230 million queries per month.
For advertising, Perplexity will follow a model called CPM, or cost per thousand ad impressions. CPM prices will be higher than $50. Primary ad categories will initially include topics such as technology, health and pharmaceuticals, arts and entertainment, finance, and food and beverage, a source said.
Advertisers can also pay for “related questions” below answers, or purchase display ads to the right of Perplexity-generated answers.

In April, Perplexity AI raised $62.7 million from existing investors, including Nvidia. The company was valued at more than $1 billion, double what it was three months earlier.
But the growing popularity of the app has highlighted concerns around how it scrapes unauthorized content and data from the internet for commercial purposes, such as copyrighted articles to provide to users.
Last month, Perplexity launched a revenue-sharing model that allows news publishers to make money through the company’s search engine. When users ask a question, Perplexity generates advertising revenue by citing an article in its answer. Perplexity shares a percentage of that revenue with publishers.
