"The situation in Ukraine is terrible, the situation in Israel is terrible. What happened? We'll solve those problems. We'll solve them very quickly," Mr. Trump told reporters after winning the Iowa caucuses on January 15.
The former White House owner elaborated on how he could resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict: "I know President (Russia) Putin very well, I know President (Ukraine) Zelensky very well. I would bring them to the negotiating table and we would resolve the problem very quickly."
Mr Trump also blamed the Biden administration for the current crisis in Ukraine and the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. He vowed to prevent such tragedies, "restore peace through strength".
“It should never have happened, it will never happen,” Mr. Trump said of the conflict in Ukraine.
This is not the first time Mr. Trump has claimed that he could quickly end the Russia-Ukraine conflict if re-elected. Last year, he even asserted several times that he could end the war within 24 hours.
"Before I get to the Oval Office, I will end the disastrous war between Russia and Ukraine. I will solve the problem and I will solve it quickly and it won't take me more than a day," Trump said in March 2023.
However, Ukrainian and Western officials are skeptical about Mr. Trump’s statement. Some experts believe that if re-elected, Mr. Trump could cut off US aid to Ukraine, thereby pressuring Ukraine to sit at the negotiating table and make certain concessions to Russia.
Mr. Trump is currently the most promising presidential candidate of the US Republican Party. His path back to the White House has had a fairly favorable start when he won the first primary election in the state held on January 15.
