US President-elect Donald Trump said on November 9 that former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would not be invited to join his new administration.

"I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join the Trump Administration, which is currently being formed," Trump announced on social media. "I have enjoyed and appreciated working with them in the past, and want to thank them for their service to our country," Trump wrote, according to Reuters.

There is no immediate response from Ms. Haley or Mr. Pompeo. During his first term as president, Mr. Trump made several key personnel announcements via social media.

Ms Haley, a former South Carolina governor who served as US ambassador to the United Nations under Mr Trump, has endorsed Mr Trump for president despite being a fierce critic of him when she ran against him in the Republican primary.

Mr Pompeo, who also served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during Mr Trump's first term as president, has previously been mentioned by some media as a potential defence secretary, according to Reuters.

In recent days, Mr. Trump has questioned Mr. Pompeo’s loyalty and whether he can be trusted to carry out his agenda, two sources familiar with the discussions told CNN.

Mr. Trump is meeting with potential candidates to serve in his administration ahead of his presidential inauguration on January 20, 2025.

Reuters reported on November 9 that Mr. Trump met with famous investor Scott Bessent, who is likely to be nominated as US Treasury Secretary.

On the same day, CNN cited four sources saying that Senator Eric Schmitt from Missouri was one of the top names on President-elect Trump's list of attorney general candidates.
