On December 17, electors in 50 states met to confirm the election results in each state, according to which Mr. Donald Trump had enough votes to become the next US President when he defeated Vice President Kamala Harris with a vote ratio of 312 to 226.

The Electoral College has confirmed Donald Trump's victory.

The vote to certify the 2024 US election results went more smoothly, unlike 4 years ago when 7 states had "alternative" electors who voted for Mr. Donald Trump even though he lost in these states to his opponent Joe Biden, according to The Wal Street Journal .

This year, Mr. Trump easily won the electoral vote, receiving 312 votes compared to Vice President Harris's 226 votes, and more than 2 million popular votes.

The Electoral College is unique to the United States, which does not directly elect its president based on the popular vote. Instead, presidential candidates from both parties choose electors from each state, who will participate in a statewide election if their candidate wins the state.

Under federal law, states are required to announce their electors by December 11, and the Electoral College convenes on December 17. Next, the electors must send their certification of the vote to Washington, D.C., in preparation for the final stage of the plenary session of Congress on January 6, 2025.

During the 2020 US election, states and the federal government spent months tightening security for the meeting of electors and the plenary session at the Capitol, due to protests against Mr. Biden's victory in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

As mentioned above, things were much smoother this year as Ms. Harris accepted Mr. Trump's victory.

However, in Arizona, 11 Republican electors, due to security concerns, gathered at an undisclosed location to complete their duties.

In addition, electors in at least three states, namely Michigan, Nevada and New Mexico, also held voting meetings this year even though Mr. Trump did not win these states.
