With 47/48 subjects with A scores, Ha Ninh not only received her degree half a year early, but also ranked first among more than 1,000 early graduates of Foreign Trade University.

Truong Thi Ha Ninh, 22, from Hai Phong, is a student in French class 1, Foreign Economics program. On April 21, she and 1,000 early graduates attended the school's first graduation ceremony.

With an average academic score of 3.98/4 and a training score of 96/100, Ninh is the student with the highest results this term.

"I am proud to have completed my university program with results beyond my expectations," said Ha Ninh.

Ha Ninh said she learned French from grade 1 under a bilingual program, and continued it until the end of high school. Having been exposed to French since childhood, Ninh determined that this was her advantage, so she wanted to choose a university that taught French and was also strong in economics - her favorite field.

"Foreign Trade was the most suitable choice," Ha Ninh said about her choice four years ago. She was admitted thanks to winning third prize in the national competition for excellent students in French.

Although he had heard that Foreign Trade University students were individualistic and not afraid to express themselves, Ninh was still shocked. In the first classes, when his classmates shared their wishes and plans for the next 5 years, Ninh did not dare to speak, afraid of being laughed at.

Seeing herself as shy, Ninh was afraid that she would be left out in the long run, so she decided to change. The first activity she participated in was Icebreakers, to improve her communication skills. After that, Ninh ran for class monitor to have more opportunities to connect with friends and teachers.

"Gradually, I became more confident and no longer afraid of speaking in front of a crowd," Ninh shared. "A friend's words of encouragement almost became my motto in life: if you want to know if others agree with you, you have to speak up."

Ha Ninh also set a goal of graduating half a year early to have time to apply for a master's degree abroad. Therefore, she registered to take 2-3 extra courses each semester, even though she sometimes had to attend late classes, from 5pm to 8pm.

The first subject Ninh studied was Macroeconomics. Everything from the knowledge, teaching methods, and learning methods were new, so Ninh struggled. After that, the female student sought advice from her father, who was working at a university.

"My father encouraged me to be open-minded and not be afraid to ask questions, even from friends or teachers, so that I could learn new knowledge," Ninh recalls.

She applied her father's advice, not only in Macroeconomics but in all subjects. For parts she did not understand, Ninh proactively asked friends and studied in groups to correct her mistakes. If she still could not solve the problem, she would find a lecturer to discuss it.

Because she paid attention and had a firm grasp of the knowledge during the learning process, when it came to the exam preparation stage, female students mainly studied in groups, finding practical examples for the questions.

Thanks to that, Ha Ninh got an A in 47/48 subjects (8.5-10 points). The only subject she got a B in was General Law, taken in the second semester of her first year. Ninh said that at that time, Foreign Trade University had just switched to online learning and exams due to Covid-19, so she was not able to catch up well.

In addition to studying in class, Ha Ninh also participates in scientific research. She often develops research ideas from essay topics or final assignments, and is most interested in the article on export insurance in Vietnam. This article was published in the Proceedings of the International Scientific Conference (SR-ICYBER) in 2023.

This helped Ninh learn the skills of analyzing and synthesizing data, and structuring a research paper. Thanks to that, when she did her graduation thesis on inland waterway container transport on the Hai Phong - Bac Ninh route, she knew clearly what needed to be done. As a result, Ninh's thesis was graded at 9.2 points.

To maintain her French skills, Ninh joined the school's French Club, helped teach French to her friends, and participated in competitions. In 2022, she won second prize in the Young French Reporter contest with an article about her journey to French, her feelings and thoughts about the role of this language in life.

Master Nguyen Dieu Thai, Deputy Head of the French Department, Foreign Trade University, commented that the student "loves French very much", can use this language fluently, and has good skills. She was also impressed with Ha Ninh for her sophistication, ability to connect and encourage friends in class.

"I don't often come across a student who is both good and polite like Ha Ninh," said Ms. Thai.

Before graduating, Ninh applied to study International Business in the UK and France. She said she received a number of responses and is considering her options, before leaving to study abroad in September this year.

"I'm a bit sad that my student life has ended, but I'm also excited because I'm about to embark on a new journey," Ninh said.
