Female tourists around the world compete to show off the amount of money they spend on beauty care before going on vacation.
"Vacation prep" is a trend that tourists around the world are competing to show off on Tikok and Instagram . Accordingly, girls will record videos recording what they have done to prepare before the trip, mainly focusing on self-care and improving their beauty. Some of these activities include: going to the nail salon, spa, lip injections, hairdressing, shopping for clothes. This trend can cost each tourist thousands of dollars. Videos on this topic attract more than 81 million views and thousands of comments.

"It makes me feel confident, especially if I'm in front of the camera," Monique Smith, who lives in Toronto, Canada, said of the trend of spending money on beauty before traveling.
Aspen Cierra Evans, a photographer based in Atlanta, USA, said she used to book nail and hair appointments to ensure she had her favorite hairstyle during her trip. Some people she knew even spent thousands of dollars on beauty treatments before their vacations. However, the rising cost of beauty treatments and the rise of "crazes" for new trends have forced Evans to reconsider the beauty standards people often follow to get a good photo.
Lauren Woods, a store manager in West Palm Beach, Florida, said her business and many others have seen a surge in the “pre-travel” trend. Her clients, who often travel to warm weather destinations like Jamaica and Puerto Rico, will come in two days before their flight to get their legs waxed or their eyelashes lifted. The service costs about $260, not including tips.

Lakyn Carlton, a personal stylist and sustainable fashion educator in Los Angeles, says consumers are showing signs of a “cooling off” in their luxury purchases. But the beauty industry shows few signs of slowing down. And while tourists are willing to re-wear the same dress or swimsuit when they travel, that logic doesn’t apply to beauty, says economist Jessica Ramírez.
Gone are the days when many travelers would buy a small bottle of shower gel for a few dollars at the drugstore to keep it compact. Instead, they bring high-end cosmetics, facial cleansers, and moisturizers.
Maria Kalpakian, who lives in Buenos Aires, prepares carefully for her vacation. If she plans to get lip fillers, she does them two weeks in advance. She also gets her nails done and her eyebrows done the day before her flight. She documents her beauty routine before her trip and posts it on her social media. The Argentine tourist spends an average of $750 on each pre-trip beauty treatment. Kalpakian's goal is to "look my best in my travel photos." "Otherwise, I feel like I'm being judged," she says.
"Beauty standards are so ingrained in our society and ourselves that for many people it's almost uncomfortable to not feel like they look good," says Jessica DeFino.
"If I'm traveling and just want to experience things, I don't care what I wear. But if I'm on vacation, I want to relax and take beautiful pictures, I'm willing to spend more money on hair, nails and clothes," Evans says.
