As Tet approaches, the demand for beauty treatments skyrockets, from acne treatment, lip tattoos, to skin peeling... with the goal of having a radiant appearance to confidently welcome the new year. However, many beautiful women do not see it, but instead encounter unfortunate complications.

Lip tattoo for Tet holiday turns into "catfish lips"
Recently, Dr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, a member of the Vietnam Dermatology Association, has received many cases of serious complications due to women's hasty mentality. Many cases have suffered unfortunate consequences because of choosing the wrong beauty facility or believing in "fast" treatments.
Ms. LTH, 32 years old, came to the clinic with red, swollen, painful and pus-filled lips. Ms. H. said she had her lips tattooed at a cheap spa for only 1 million VND, promising beautiful color after 3 days. But the day after the tattoo, her lips began to swell, she could not eat or drink, and were in pain day and night. At this time, her lips were swollen like "catfish lips" and she quickly went to the doctor for examination.
According to Dr. Thanh, Ms. H.'s condition was caused by an allergy to tattoo ink of unknown origin, combined with an infection from unsanitary equipment. This is a common complication when performing invasive procedures at unlicensed facilities.
To reduce inflammation and prevent the infection from spreading, the patient is prescribed oral antibiotics and anti-allergy medications. However, for the lips to fully recover and return to normal, it will take at least several months of continuous monitoring.
Fast acne treatment "clear acne in just 3 days"
The first case is NMM, 25 years old, living in Hanoi. Ms. M. came to the clinic with a face full of inflamed acne, redness, and swelling.

M. said she wanted her skin to be beautiful quickly for Tet photos, so she went to a spa near her house. They sold her a type of acne cream, saying it would go away in just 3 days. Indeed, at first her skin felt tight and shiny, but after a week, the acne became thicker and spread all over her face.
After examination, Dr. Thanh determined that the cream M. used contained a high level of corticoid, an ingredient often abused for instant beauty purposes. Corticoid can quickly reduce inflammation, but long-term use will weaken the skin, making it susceptible to infection and serious complications.
Ms. M. was asked to immediately stop using the products she was using and replace them with a gentle cleanser and a deep recovery cream. At the same time, Ms. M. was prescribed antibiotics combined with anti-inflammatory drugs to control the inflammatory acne. However, this process takes at least 3-4 months for the skin to fully recover.
According to Dr. Thanh, every time before Tet, the number of patients often increases dramatically, especially cases with serious complications from rapid beauty treatments.
"The common mentality of many people is to want to be beautiful quickly in time for Tet, but they do not know that quick beauty treatments often come with great risks.
Most untrustworthy spas often use products of unknown origin, have unsafe procedures, or make unrealistic promises to attract customers," Dr. Thanh shared.
Beautify properly, celebrate Tet safely
To avoid unfortunate consequences, Dr. Thanh gives some important notes:
- Only get beauty treatments at reputable facilities: Choose facilities with operating licenses, specialized doctors, and safe procedures.
- Don't go for quick fixes: Your skin needs time to recover. Quick fixes are never a safe option.
- Consult a dermatologist: A specialist will help you choose the right beauty treatment for your skin condition.
"Tet is a time to shine, but don't let wrong choices cause you long-term consequences. Safe beauty is the most sustainable way to love yourself," Dr. Thanh concluded.
