Ho Chi Minh City Buyo project providing 100% natural bioplastic won the 2023 national innovation and startup talent search with a prize of 100 million VND.
The final round of the national innovation and startup talent search competition took place on the morning of November 24 with 10 excellent project groups selected from 500 entries. The competition was organized by the Department of Market Development and Science and Technology Enterprises (Ministry of Science and Technology) in coordination with units in the innovation and startup ecosystem. The event is within the framework of the National Innovation and Startup Festival (Techfest) 2023.
The winner of the competition, the Buyo project, provides natural bioplastics from organic waste in industry and agriculture using technology invented by the research team. Bioplastics are completely biodegradable in the natural environment, safe for health and reduce carbon emissions.

The second prize went to the AirXCarbon project, which uses agricultural, industrial and forestry waste to create bioplastic pellets. The team refined the production process to maximize carbon capture, ensuring the bio-based material is a carbon negative form that is cost-competitive with petroleum-based plastics.
Third prize went to the Cenegry project with energy storage technology based on flow battery technology.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Tran Van Tung, Standing Member of the Executive Board of Project 844, former Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, congratulated and highly appreciated the excellent projects that reached the finals and won the competition awards. He hoped that the projects would continue to improve their solutions and business models to reach new heights when participating in international competitions. From the perspective of a management agency, Mr. Tung pledged to continue to facilitate and support startup projects, connect domestic and foreign investors so that startups can develop domestic and international markets, provide green and sustainable development solutions, and solve social problems.
The National Innovation and Startup Talent Search Competition aims to find innovative solutions from technology enterprises, attracting domestic and foreign experts, intellectuals, and entrepreneurs to help inspire creative thinking, contributing to promoting the innovation and startup ecosystem.
