A week ago, Cai Rong Town Secondary School (Van Don District, Quang Ninh Province) confirmed that 126 students ate strange candy bought at the school gate, of which 5 students suffered from numb lips, dizziness, chest pain, and difficulty breathing.
Also in Quang Ninh, on November 29, the People's Committee of Binh Lieu district informed about a suspected food poisoning incident that occurred at Hoanh Mo Secondary and High School. 20 students ate a type of candy with foreign words, bought near the school gate. After eating the candy, the students all had headaches, stomachaches, and nausea, and were taken to a medical facility for examination and health monitoring.
Through inspection and review, the candies that students ate had foreign words and no Vietnamese labels, bought at grocery stores in front of the school gate.
Strange candy of unknown origin.
In Hai Phong, some students of Quang Trung Secondary School (Van My Ward, Ngo Quyen) had stomachaches after eating strange candy bought at the school gate. Their families took them to the hospital for examination, and the doctor concluded that they had digestive disorders and were not too seriously affected.
The ward People's Committee organized a team to inspect the shops near the school, but did not find the type of candy that the students reported. The shop owner said he had sold it before but stopped selling it after seeing the warning online.
Currently, the two students with digestive disorders are attending school normally and have not missed any classes. The school continues to care for and encourage the children and their families will continue to monitor their condition.
Thai Nguyen also recorded a similar case. On November 28, some students of Nguyen Du Secondary School (Mo Che Ward, Song Cong City) bought green candy with foreign labels, sold at the school gate to eat. After eating, the students felt dizzy, had headaches and felt nauseous.
Many localities issued warnings
The Department of Education and Training of Quang Ninh province requires educational institutions and management agencies to ensure food safety and hygiene in schools. The Department requests units to direct cadres, teachers, staff, students and trainees to immediately report to local authorities for timely prevention measures.
Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong requested the Department of Education and Training of districts, towns, units and schools to strengthen management and ensure food safety and hygiene in schools.
"Schools need to step up propaganda to all parents and students not to buy snacks of unknown origin. At the same time, disseminate information to parents to pay attention and strengthen management of their children's learning and living situation," Mr. Cuong emphasized in the warning.
Currently, many schools in Hanoi have also sent notices and text messages to all parents to warn them about candies and foods of unknown origin being sold around the school area.
